A young girl, Mélanie Prouvost, harbors dreams of becoming a pianist and auditions for a spot at a prestigious conservatoire, performing in front of the renowned pianist Ariane Fouchécourt. During the recital, as Ariane signs an autograph for a devoted admirer, Mélanie becomes distracted, resulting in a heart-wrenching performance that leads her to leave the audition, deeply disappointed alongside her mother.

Years later, after pursuing her studies diligently, Mélanie secures a work experience position at a law firm, where she serendipitously encounters Ariane’s husband.
