What type of animal is Marahute?

Plot Summary

In the vast expanse of Australia’s Outback, a young boy named Cody forms an unlikely bond with Marahute, a majestic golden eagle, whose trust is earned through a series of thoughtful gestures. As their friendship deepens, Marahute shares the secrets of her nest and eggs, bestowing upon Cody a precious feather as a symbol of their connection. Tragedy strikes when Cody falls prey to the cunning trap set by Percival C. McLeach, a ruthless poacher with a history of violence against Australia’s wildlife. As McLeach’s malevolent intentions become clear, he kidnaps Cody and dispatches his backpack into the crocodile-infested waters, leaving behind a false trail that convinces the Australian Rangers that their young friend has met a gruesome demise.

Meanwhile, at the Rescue Aid Society (RAS) outpost, a plucky mouse stirs to life, racing against time to alert the authorities of Cody’s disappearance. A telegram is dispatched to the RAS headquarters in New York City, setting in motion a chain reaction that will bring together some of the organization’s most esteemed operatives. Bernard and Miss Bianca, a dynamic duo with a shared history of bravery and wit, are hastily recalled from their respective pursuits - Bernard’s attempts at romantic overtures toward Bianca being notably interrupted. Their mission takes them to the doorstep of Orville the albatross, a veteran ally whose expertise they seek in navigating the unforgiving winter skies. Alas, they find Orville out of commission, replaced by his more cautious brother Wilbur, who is initially hesitant but ultimately convinced to lend his wings to their cause.

As Bernard and Bianca touch down in Australia, they meet Jake, a charming hopping mouse who serves as their local guide and protector. Jake’s affections for Bianca are evident, leaving Bernard feeling increasingly disheartened. As they venture deeper into the Australian wilderness, they face treacherous terrain and unexpected challenges, including Wilbur’s untimely mishap, which leaves him with a temporary spinal injury. With Wilbur temporarily sidelined, Jake assumes the role of navigator and guardian, expertly guiding their search for Cody through the unforgiving landscape.

As Cody languishes in McLeach’s dank hideout, a prison of sorts for himself and a medley of captive creatures, he becomes obsessed with freeing them all. His resolve is met with the cunning Joanna, a goanna with a penchant for thwarting escape attempts. McLeach, mastermind behind the operation, recognizes Cody’s weakness - his devotion to Marahute and her eggs - and manipulates him into believing she’s been killed, releasing him back into the fray. Unbeknownst to Cody, he’s being played like a fiddle as McLeach departs in his half-track, leaving Bernard, Bianca, and Jake to arrive at the hideout just in time to warn Cody of impending doom.

Their timely intervention is short-lived, however, as McLeach captures Cody, Marahute, Jake, and Bianca, sending Joanna to devour Marahute’s precious eggs. Enter Bernard, whose quick thinking and cunning outmaneuver the reptilian menace using egg-shaped decoys. Wilbur, meanwhile, has been dispatched to safeguard the real eggs, leaving Bernard to tackle McLeach head-on.

The villainous mastermind takes his captives to Crocodile Falls, a breathtaking waterfall at the end of the river where Cody’s backpack met its demise. He binds Cody and suspends him above the churning waters, intending to feed him to the crocodiles as a snack. Bernard, ever the hero, arrives on the scene astride a razorback pig he’s tamed using an unconventional horse whispering technique learned from Jake. With precision and panache, he disables McLeach’s vehicle, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.

As Cody dangles precariously above the water, McLeach attempts to dispatch him with a well-placed shot, but Bernard outwits Joanna once more, sending her - and her partner in crime - tumbling into the waters. The crocodiles, now free from their original target, turn their attention to the pair, providing a timely distraction for Cody’s would-be saviors.

As McLeach meets his watery demise, Cody is left dangling precariously above the falls, but not for long. Bernard dives in, buying Cody just enough time for Jake and Bianca to free Marahute, allowing the majestic eagle to swoop in and rescue her human companions mere seconds before they go over the edge.

In the aftermath of their harrowing ordeal, Bernard proposes to Bianca, who accepts with alacrity. Jake offers a heartfelt salute, his respect for Bernard now solidified. As the group departs Cody’s home, they’re met with a surprise - Wilbur still perched on Marahute’s eggs, only to find himself suddenly beset by a pair of eager eaglets, their tiny beaks nipping at his tender skin in a most undignified manner.
