On a dark and stormy night, a chiropractor opens her office door to an unseen visitor. Fast-forward several days, and we find David Parson driving in Minneapolis. He unexpectedly comes across a gaunt teenage girl poised to jump off a bridge. Recognizing the danger, David stops his truck and saves the seemingly dazed girl, who introduces herself as Aura Petrescu from Romania.

Struggling with personal demons, Aura is hesitant to eat, leading David to believe she might be battling a drug addiction, especially upon seeing needle marks on her arms. After a brief snack, Aura excuses herself to the restroom, only to be found later vomiting in distress.
