A young man named Sterling finds himself in a precarious situation after being mugged one fateful night. Seeking solace and an escape from his misfortunes, he enters a store, only to overhear a customer, Mr. Laird, boast shamelessly about his recent win of a staggering $156 million lottery ticket. Driven by desperation, Sterling dons a mask and brandishes a gun, demanding the winning ticket. However, unbeknownst to him, chaos is about to ensue. In a twist of events, Cody, a cop who happens to be using the bathroom, hears the commotion and responds with fatal consequences, mistakenly shooting Mr. Laird. In the heat of the moment, Sterling retaliates, shooting Cody as well.
With urgency in the air, Sterling orders Amir, the store’s keeper, to dispose of the bodies and erase any incriminating camera footage. Among the customers are Abraham and his pregnant girlfriend Ana, who are soon swept into the conspiracy to claim the lottery prize. The group begins hatching a plan to split the lottery winnings among themselves, all while trying to cover their tracks. Their scheme takes a dark turn when Amir’s brother-in-law and a security guard arrive to check on him, forcing them to act quickly and leave without raising any suspicion.
In a calculated move, the group unlocks Mr. Laird’s phone, crafting a narrative for the world that he has embarked on an extended vacation. However, their plans begin to unravel as Cody, unbeknownst to them, regains consciousness. Finding himself beside Mr. Laird’s lifeless body, he hastily calls his dad to alert him about the lottery ticket.
Meanwhile, Abraham is behind the wheel, driving the car that contains the body of Mr. Laird, when they stop at a railway crossing. A watchful security guard notices something amiss and attempts to intervene but is quickly subdued. The tension escalates as Cody’s dad arrives on the scene with a couple of police SWAT team members, resulting in a violent showdown. Sterling and Amir are killed in the confrontation, and Cody’s dad rushes into the store only to come across an unresponsive Ana, who appears to be in a state of suicide, with a plastic bag over her head. In a shocking turn of events, Ana reveals that she was merely pretending, and seizes the moment to retaliate against him with a hammer.
As more chaos unfolds, another cop enters the scene, but Ana uses a broken bottle to fend him off. She quickly sets off the sprinkler fire alarm, desperately seeking help from the outside world. Just as tensions peak, Cody arrives, now armed and ready for action, but he too falls victim as he is shot down by the last surviving cop, Captain Rutledge. In a tense moment, Ana hands the winning ticket to Rutledge. However, he returns it to her, remarking, > “All you remember is me saving your lives.”
As the scene clears, the lottery jackpot sign outside dramatically changes from a breathtaking $156 million to a mere $20 million, indicating the ticket has been claimed. In a revealing interview, Rutledge is informed that his share amounts to $78 million, while in a separate hospital room, Ana and Abraham celebrate not just a bittersweet victory over their tumultuous ordeal but also the arrival of their newborn baby, proving that life goes on amidst the chaos and tragedy they’ve endured.
