In the magical kingdom of Lumbria, Princess Ellian faces the challenge of her parents, King Solon and Queen Ellsmere, having been transformed into feral monsters a year earlier after a journey in the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness. With the help of royal adviser’s, Ministers Bolinar and Nazara Prone, she tries to supervise and hide the monsters from the public. However, their attempts to reverse the transformation have been unsuccessful. As Ellian approaches her fifteenth birthday, the adviser’s believe it is time for her to become the new queen. In a final effort to restore her parents, Ellian arranges a meeting with two deities, Sunny and Luno, the Oracles of the Sun and Moon. Unfortunately, when the oracles arrive, the monster King and Queen scare them away, leaving behind a magical device called “The Fob,” which combines their powers.

In a twist of fate, Ellian accidentally releases her parents from their cages, causing chaos in the kingdom and alarming both the subjects and the Captain of the Guards. As panic ensues, the Captain orders the monsters to be removed from the kingdom. To escape the guards and the ministers pursuing them, Ellian uses the Fob’s magic, which allows her and her parents to flee and seek the Oracles themselves. During their escape, Ellian’s unintended use of the Fob causes Bolinar to accidentally switch bodies with her pet rodent, Flink.

Arriving at the cottage of Sunny and Luno in the Dark Forest, the oracles reveal that only Ellian’s parents can reverse the spell by traveling to the Lake of Light. Throughout their journey, the King and Queen regain the ability to speak but not the memories of their former selves. Meanwhile, Bolinar attempts to lead the guards to them, but with Ellian’s help, her parents manage to evade capture while crossing a desert filled with quicksand. When Ellian rescues a graphing baby from the quicksand and returns it to its parents, Solon and Ellsmere begin to remember the essence of parenthood, ultimately recognizing Ellian as their daughter. The return of their humanity makes Bolinar realize that Ellian was right to remain hopeful, and he begins to enjoy his new form after befriending creatures similar to Flink.

Finally, the group reaches the Lake of Light, which reveals that Solon and Ellsmere’s constant arguing was the cause of their transformation. Coming to terms with their unhappiness, they tell Ellian that they can no longer be together. A vortex of dark magic appears, threatening to consume a distressed Ellian, while the guards still believe her parents to be dangerous beasts. Bolinar breaks them free, and they successfully convince their subjects of their true nature. Together, they use the light of the lake to save Ellian from the darkness. Assurance comes as Solon and Ellsmere express that their love for her has never wavered, and Ellian ultimately finds peace with their decision to separate, understanding it does not break their family bond. They share a heartfelt hug, which lifts the spell, transforming Solon and Ellsmere back into humans and returning Flink and Bolinar to their respective bodies.

One year later, Solon and Ellsmere are living in separate castles but managing to rule the kingdom and raise Ellian together in harmony. On her sixteenth birthday, Ellian enjoys a grand celebration with family and friends, joyfully embracing both the good and bad changes that life has brought her.
