Karen Gillan
Karen Sheila Gillan is a Scottish actress and filmmaker born on 28 November 1987. She started gaining recognition for her work in British film and television, most notably for playing Amy Pond, a primary companion to the Eleventh Doctor in the science fiction series Doctor Who from 2010 to 2013. She also took part in theater in Britain, appearing in John Osborne's play Inadmissible Evidence in 2011. Gillan transitioned to Hollywood, landing roles in the horror film Oculus in 2013, the ABC sitcom Selfie in 2014, and rose to stardom for portraying Nebula in several films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from 2014 to 2023, which are among the highest-grossing films of all time. She further achieved recognition as Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji franchise in 2017 and 2019.
Gillan also wrote and directed The Party's Just Beginning in 2018, where she was also starred. More recently, she played leading roles in comedy film Gunpowder Milkshake (2021), thriller film Dual (2022), coming-of-age film Late Bloomers (2023), and returned to British television with series Douglas Is Cancelled (2024). Beyond acting, she has done modeling work, debuted at London Fashion Week in 2007. However, she remained committed to her acting career. She is also involved in advocacy work, including promoting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) and the opening of Squirrel Ward at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
