David Matthew Macfadyen, known as Matthew Macfadyen, born on 17th October 1974, is a prominent English actor. He made his initial stride into fame with his role as Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright's Pride & Prejudice (2005). His performance as Tom Wambsgans in HBO's drama series Succession (2018–2023) catalyzed his fame, earning him two Primetime Emmy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. His television career debut dates back to 1998 when he donned the role of Hareton Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights. His other notable roles include Tom Quinn in the BBC One spy series Spooks (2002–2004, 2011), and Inspector Edmund Reid in Ripper Street (2012–2016). He received the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Criminal Justice (2009). In the world of cinema, Macfadyen is known for his performances in Death at a Funeral (2007), Frost/Nixon (2008), Anna Karenina (2012), The Assistant (2019), and Operation Mincemeat (2021). In 2024, he played Mr. Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine. Macfadyen's early education includes multiple schools due to his father's occupation as an oil engineer, which allowed him to grow up in various places such as Jakarta, Indonesia. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) at the age of 17 where he polished his acting skills to perfection from 1992 to 1995. Despite achieving immense success on the screen, Macfadyen remained devoted to the theatre, performing in numerous stage productions such as The Duchess of Malfi, The School for Scandal, Much Ado About Nothing, and Henry IV, Parts One and Two.
