Omar Sy

Born 20 January 1978, **Omar Sy** is a renowned French actor, recognized widely for his sketches with Fred Testot on the _Service après-vente des émissions_ television show on Canal+ (2005–2012). He gained international fame through his roles in multiple blockbuster films and series such as _Intouchables_, _X-Men: Days of Future Past_, _Jurassic World_, _Chocolat_, _Inferno_, _Transformers: The Last Knight_, and recently, the popular Netflix-produced series _Lupin_. Sy was born in Trappes, Yvelines department of the Île-de-France region, to immigrant parents from West Africa. The family spoke Pulaar at home. Omar holds the honor of being the first Black recipient of the César Award for Best Actor. In addition to this, in his illustrious career, Sy has lent his voice to various roles, including the French version of the _Tomb Raider Legend_ video game and Disney's _Brother Bear_. He has also made appearances in music videos and voiced characters in the short film _Logorama_. In 2012, Sy was voted the favorite personality in France. Sy started his career working at Radio Nova after high school, where he met Fred Testot, who became his comedy partner. In 2011, he starred in _The Intouchables_, becoming a household name due to the film's immense success. The film went on to top the French box office in 2011 and became the best-selling French film of all-time in France. For his role, Sy won the 2012 Globe de Cristal for Best Actor and was jointly bestowed the Best Actor Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival with co-star François Cluzet. In 2021, Sy starred in Netflix's hit series _Lupin_, which became one of the most-watched non-English series on Netflix. He was included on the Time 100, Time's annual list of the most influential people in the world. He also signed a multi-year feature film deal with Netflix and a first-look deal with HBO Max.
