What event triggers Mitch Rapp's quest for vengeance?

Plot Summary

As Mitch Rapp’s (Dylan O’Brien) tranquil getaway in Spain turns into a nightmare, he finds himself grappling with the devastating aftermath of a jihadist attack that claims the life of his soon-to-be-wife. The senseless violence is meant to instill fear and despair in the hearts of Americans, but instead, it galvanizes Mitch’s resolve to seek vengeance against those responsible. His journey begins with a rigorous physical training regimen, unbeknownst to him, piques the interest of the American government’s intelligence agency, CIA.

CIA agent Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) takes notice of Mitch’s remarkable training and recruits him for a secretive “black ops” team, dispatching him to Dan Hurley (Michael Keaton), a seasoned former Navy Seal, for further honing. As global events unfold at an unprecedented pace, Dan whisks Mitch away to Istanbul, where they meet with CIA agent Annika (Shiva Negar). Under the guise of a newlywed couple, they embark on a perilous mission to thwart a jihadist plot to construct a nuclear bomb.

However, their operation quickly spirals out of control as unexpected twists and turns arise. Ghost (Taylor Kitsch), a former member of Dan’s group turned mercenary, now works for the very enemies they’re trying to defeat. Complicating matters further is Annika’s true allegiance: she’s secretly working for the Iranian government.

As Mitch navigates this complex web of deception and betrayal, he must also contend with the unpredictable nature of his mission. Despite disobeying direct orders, his impromptu decisions yield surprising results. In a stunning turn of events, the operation evolves into a joint CIA-Mossad (Israel’s intelligence agency) collaboration.

The stakes are raised as Mitch finds himself in a heart-pumping chase to prevent the nuclear bomb from reaching its intended target: the U.S. Navy fleet. With time running out and lives hanging in the balance, Mitch makes the ultimate sacrifice, sacrificing the bomb’s detonation overboard, allowing it to explode harmlessly deep within the ocean.

In the aftermath, an Iranian military man (secretly linked to the bomb’s creation) publicly blames his country’s woes on the U.S., vowing to eliminate America from the face of the earth. As fate would have it, this same individual steps into an elevator, unaware that Mitch, now a seasoned American Assassin, stands silently behind him, ready to exact justice and ensure that no one else suffers at the hands of terrorism.
