In the opening scene, we find Jim McBride, portrayed by Greg Evigan, and Joyce Collins, played by Nancy Everhard, waking up to the sound of their alarm clock. Jim mumbles about having another dream, this time about being underwater, which Joyce notes is the third time it’s happened. Their conversation turns to Captain Laidlaw, discussing how fortunate he is with his loving wife and perfect children. Joyce curiously asks Jim why he never settled down, to which he replies that he’s never stayed in one place long enough to form a meaningful relationship.

Later, the crew prepares to embark on a mission aboard a smaller submersible, DSRV2, launching from the SEATRAK installation. As they descend underwater, two pilots, James Richardson, played by Matt McCoy, and Jim, discuss their grueling six-month stint underwater. Things take a startling turn when they pick up a location transponder from another installation, Deep Star 6 (DS6), prompting Miguel Ferrer who plays Snyder, to contact them with a complaint about their tardiness—his shift change was supposed to happen 20 minutes ago.

Upon arriving and docking at DS6, John Hodges, played by Thom Bray, who had dozed off during the journey, is awakened. As the crew prepared for excavation overnight, they are cautioned by Hodges to conduct sonographic scans to ensure there aren’t any geological faults at the site. Breakfast brings a new directive from Captain Laidlaw, performed by Taurean Blacque, insisting that Mia Scarpelli, played by Nia Peeples, take the entire day to rest despite her objections of having too much work on her plate.

The designer of DS6, Dr. John Van Gelder, brilliantly portrayed by Marius Weyers, contacts Joyce via radio to discuss discrepancies in their findings. Joyce warns him of a cavern that challenges safety regulations regarding missile sled placement. Undeterred, Van Gelder demands that the cavern gets collapsed and the missiles installed by week’s end, ignoring Mia’s requests to survey the cavern—an area she feels could yield significant marine life insights stemming from strange reports over the past century and a half.

Meanwhile, Dr. Diane Norris, skillfully portrayed by Cindy Pickett, examines Snyder’s skin rash, which he fears might be detrimental to the mission plagued by time and budget overruns. As the days progress, Van Gelder’s dismissive attitude causes friction, particularly with Mia advocating for a closer examination of the cavern. The crew’s trials escalate upon deploying an underwater tractor, SEACAT, driven by Hodges and Osborne, to break open the cavern. The subsequent detonation results in a sudden subsidence of the seafloor, and the tractor must hastily retreat to prevent imminent catastrophe.

As ordered, Collins suggests the release of a remote probe to further investigate the newly breached cavern. They soon lose contact with the probe, only to realize something aggressive lurks in the depths. In a panic, Hodges opts to investigate firsthand by releasing a smaller craft from the tractor. However, chaos erupts as they encounter a gigantic underwater creature that violently attacks them. Collins has to rally the crew after SEATRAK is ambushed and she sustains severe injuries while trying to rescue Burciaga, marking the start of their fight for survival against the increasingly hostile entity.

Amidst the turmoil, Captain Laidlaw and McBride make their way to the beleaguered SEATRAK to assess the damage. As they navigate the site, the situation turns dire, and they face the startling revelation that a large crab-like monster has made the installation its hunting ground, complicating their attempts to escape. The group must now devise a way to combat the creature while managing the crumbling underwater facility, which threatens to implode due to structural instabilities and deteriorating oxygen levels.

A series of intense moments unfolds as the team, equipped with makeshift weapons and a plan to exploit the creature’s weaknesses, enters the fray to stave off both the monster and the impending disaster of their failing reactor.
