As Finn Earl, a 16-year-old, finds himself confined within the cramped walls of his mother’s apartment, he longs to escape the stifling atmosphere of New York City. His desire for freedom grows stronger as he discovers that his father is heading to South America to study the mysterious Ishkanani Indians, famously dubbed the “Fierce People.” Yet, Finn’s aspirations come crashing down when he is arrested for purchasing drugs for his mother, Lower East Side Liz, portrayed by Diane Lane, who is a massage therapist battling her own addiction.

In a bid to transform their lives, Liz makes the bold decision to relocate them to a guesthouse nestled within the expansive estate of her former client, Ogden C. Osbourne, a wealthy and powerful figure. As they delve into Osbourne’s luxurious world, Finn and Liz encounter a circle of the ultrarich, whose lives are just as wild and enigmatic as any foreign culture. Amidst this tumultuous shift, Liz fights her inner demons, desperate to earn back her son’s affection, while Finn becomes infatuated with Osbourne’s enchanting granddaughter, Maya Langley. He unexpectedly forms a bond with her older brother, Bryce Langley, and gains the validation of their esteemed grandfather, Ogden C. Osbourne.

As Finn begins to find his place among the Osbourne family, basking in their acceptance and admiration, his newfound world is turned upside down when violence and trauma strike, threatening to upend everything he cherishes. The brutal truths of this elite society expose the high price of belonging, compelling both Finn and Liz to confront their battles for dignity and self-worth in a desperate effort to reclaim their lives amidst the chaos.
