As the day breaks over the gritty Brooklyn streets in 1955, a young Henry Hill finds himself captivated by the seductive world of organized crime. Drawn into the intriguing circle of Paulie Cicero, a local caporegime, and his associates—Jimmy “the Gent” Conway, a sly Irish-American truck hijacker, and Tommy DeVito, a fellow juvenile delinquent with a playful demeanor—Henry begins his journey as a fence for Jimmy. This partnership quickly escalates, allowing him to permeate the ranks of the criminal underworld, while the trio spends their nights at the illustrious Copacabana nightclub, basking in the heady mix of cigarette smoke and soft lighting.

Amidst this chaotic lifestyle, Henry becomes enchanted by Karen Friedman, a Jewish woman whose initial reservations about his illicit activities soon dissolve under the glow of his glamorous life. In spite of her parents’ misgivings, she is drawn to Henry’s world, ultimately marrying him, a choice that further entangles him in the dark allure of the mob scene.

In 1970, the arrival of Billy Batts, a made man from the Gambino crime family, sets into motion a series of events that irreparably change Henry’s life. When Billy disrespects Tommy in a nightclub owned by Henry, the subsequent brutal murder of Billy by Jimmy and Tommy sheds light on the violent repercussions of their lifestyle, demonstrating the stark realities lurking beneath the glamorous surface.

With the years rolling on, Henry’s life becomes increasingly inextricable from the criminal underbelly. By 1974, Karen’s jealousy surfaces when she learns of Henry’s affair with Janice, leading her to confront her husband and forcing Henry to reassess his life choices as he struggles with the complexities of love, loyalty, and betrayal.

When Henry is paroled four years later, he takes bold risks, defying Paulie’s orders by diving headfirst into the cocaine trade alongside Jimmy and Tommy. This reckless pursuit culminates in a notorious heist orchestrated by Jimmy at John F. Kennedy International Airport, snagging an impressive six million dollars in cash and valuable jewelry. As they indulge in lavish purchases, it becomes evident that their extravagant behavior is sowing the seeds of their eventual demise.

The year 1979 brings tragedy as Tommy, misled into thinking he will be initiated as a made man, meets an untimely end at the hands of former allies. Witnessing this, Henry is left pondering the fate that may await him in the tumultuous world they inhabit.

By early 1980, Henry’s addiction spirals out of control, leaving him a shadow of his former self. In a desperate move, he attempts another drug deal with associates in Pittsburgh, but his plans collapse, leading to his imprisonment on drug charges. After securing his release, Karen unveils her immense frustration after disposing of a staggering $60,000 worth of cocaine to thwart FBI agents during a surprise raid. This act not only leaves them financially crippled but also strains their relationship, prompting Paulie to sever ties with him and relinquishing control of their lucrative operations.

Seeking comfort, Karen gravitates toward Jimmy, but her instincts warn her of danger lurking in the shadows. Meanwhile, Henry meets Jimmy at a shabby diner, leading to a nerve-wracking proposition for a high-stakes hit. As he grapples with growing suspicions of being set up, Henry’s life takes a pivotal turn as he chooses to turn informant, enrolling his family in the witness protection program.
