New Jack City 1991

Nino Brown (Wesley Snipes) is a rising drug dealer who, alongside his brother and right-hand man, Gee Money (Allen Payne), dives into the world of freebased crack cocaine, touted by Gee as a potent and cheaper alternative to regular cocaine. As crack begins to devastate poor neighborhoods across New York City, Nino and his crew establish their operation from an apartment building in Harlem known as The Carter. By resorting to violence and intimidation, they successfully drive out any opposing tenants and rival criminals, thus forming their notorious group, the CMB—short for “Cash Money Brothers.”

Years pass, and Nino’s drug empire flourishes, leaving behind a wake of addiction that reaches epidemic levels. Determined to put an end to Nino’s reign, Detective Stone (Mario Van Peebles) seeks help from Scotty Appleton (Ice-T), a plainclothes officer currently suspended after a shooting incident involving an unarmed suspect. Stone persuades Scotty to go undercover within Nino’s organization, with the assistance of the weary cop, Nick Paretti.

Complications arise when Frankie Needles (Anthony DeSando) relays a message from the mob, indicating that Nino is overdue on payments. Dismissive, Nino rebuffs the warning and instead focuses on gaining favor with the local community by distributing food, even helping Pookie (Chris Rock), a young addict previously shot by Scotty. As Scotty helps Pookie recover from his addiction, Pookie gains employment with Gee Money and even provides insider info about the drug operation.

With Nino deep in his operations, he finds himself entangled in a web of jealousy, especially as he sets his sights on his partner’s girlfriend, Uniqua (Tracy Camilla Johns), causing tension with his own neglected partner, Selina (Michael Michele). Pookie’s luck sours as he attempts to prove himself within the Carter’s drug distribution unit while simultaneously battling his addiction. His subsequent discovery leads to a catastrophic outcome, with an explosive showdown that pits Scotty and his team against Nino’s criminal empire.

Driven by anger, Nino confronts Gee Money, resulting in a deadly altercation. With the stakes growing higher, Scotty walks a fine line between vengeance and justice, holding back his fury as he gathers evidence against Nino. During a pivotal encounter, Scotty learns of Nino’s dark past—realizing that Nino’s first murder was of Scotty’s own mother—which fuels his obsession with arresting him.

A chaotic gunfight erupts during Nino’s wedding, leading to further bloodshed as the Italian mob intervenes. With personal vows and betrayals unfolding, Nino’s relationship with his crew deteriorates, culminating in a tragic betrayal that leaves friends as enemies. The eventual confrontation sees Scotty capturing Nino, but not before a harrowing admission about his mother’s death.

As the trial unfolds, Nino’s deception knows no bounds as he flips the narrative, attempting to frame Kareem as the CMB leader, hoping to lighten his sentence. Fate takes a grim turn when he’s gunned down upon leaving the courtroom, leaving Scotty and Paretti to reflect on the lasting impact of the crack epidemic and the existence of figures like Nino across the nation, hinting at the continuing struggles faced by countless communities.
