What rare hormonal disorder does Leena Klammer suffer from?

Plot Summary

As January 2007 unfolded, Estonian psychiatric patient Leena Klammer (31), afflicted with hypopituitarism, a rare hormonal disorder that stunted her physical development, hatched a daring escape plan from Saarne Institute. With calculated precision, she seduced and silenced a guard, then hijacked the car of art therapist Anna. Leena’s nocturnal exploits continued as she infiltrated Anna’s home, claiming her life before assuming the identity of missing American girl Esther Albright, whose disappearance had mystified authorities in 2003.

In Darien, Connecticut, wealthy artist Allen Albright and his wife Tricia, still grappling with the anguish of their daughter’s vanishing act, received a stunning update from Detective Donnan: “Esther” had been found. Tricia traveled to the U.S. embassy in Moscow, only to be “reunited” with Esther. Upon returning home, she began to notice eerie discrepancies - Esther’s forgetfulness about her grandmother’s passing and an uncanny proficiency in painting that rivaled Allen’s artistic prowess. Unbeknownst to Tricia, Leena had begun to weave a web of deceit, seeking to estrange her from Allen.

As the Albrights attended a charity gala, Detective Donnan made a surreptitious visit to Esther’s room, pilfering a vinyl record bearing Leena’s fingerprints. Unaware that Leena was hot on his heels, he analyzed the prints at home, only to discover they didn’t match Esther’s profile. Enraged, Leena launched a vicious attack on Donnan, repeatedly stabbing him with a knife before Tricia intervened, her gun drawn. Instead of intervening to stop the violence, Tricia opened fire on Donnan, ending his life. As Leena’s true identity began to unravel, Tricia revealed that she was aware all along - Esther had died four years prior in an altercation with her older brother Gunnar, a secret Tricia had kept from Allen.

Tricia’s motivations were twofold: she sought to rekindle Allen’s happiness by welcoming Leena into their lives and to conceal the dark truth about Esther’s demise. As Leena’s charade began to crumble, she revealed her true self to Tricia, and together they conspired to dispose of Donnan’s body in a hidden cellar hatch where the real Esther lay buried. With calculated ease, they fabricated an email to the police station, framing Donnan’s disappearance as a vacation getaway.

As Tricia and Gunnar deliberately perpetuate Leena’s charade for Allen’s benefit, a palpable sense of tension simmers beneath the surface. Esther’s (Leena) whereabouts are carefully concealed, but her vigilant companions remain on high alert, their distrust of each other and Leena festering like an open wound. One fateful evening, Tricia’s paranoia boils over as she attempts to silently eliminate Leena with a poisoned meal, but Leena has anticipated the move and instead feeds it to her rodent roommate. The rat’s gruesome demise serves as a stark warning, and Leena exacts a cruel revenge by concocting a revolting green smoothie infused with the rodent’s carcass for Tricia.

Meanwhile, Allen announces his intention to venture into the city to discuss a potential art gallery, leaving the trio momentarily unmoored. At the train station, Leena makes a desperate bid to eliminate Tricia and Gunnar by pushing them onto the tracks, but her plan is foiled by an opportunistic commuter who inadvertently intervenes. With Allen away, Leena attempts to make a break for it by commandeering Tricia’s vehicle, only to be apprehended by a vigilant police officer.

That night, Leena finds herself back at the Albright household, where Tricia and Gunnar have finally decided that her presence poses too great a risk to their own lives. They concoct a plan to stage Leena’s demise, but she has other ideas, fighting back against Tricia’s attempts to dispatch her with a makeshift noose. As Gunnar momentarily distracts himself with a phone call from Allen, now en route home, Leena seizes the opportunity to strike. With a swift and deadly crossbow shot, she fells Gunnar, then claims his fencing sword as her own, plunging it into his lifeless body.

As Tricia’s rage ignites like a firestorm, she engages in a fierce kitchen battle with Leena, inadvertently setting the house ablaze. The two combatants flee to the rooftop, where Allen’s return provides an uncertain backdrop for their desperate struggle to survive amidst the chaos and destruction they’ve created.

As Tricia and Leena’s precarious predicament unfolded on the rooftop, their desperate cries for help pierced the air as they clung to the structure with all their might. The tension was palpable as Leena made the outlandish claim that Tricia had launched a vicious attack against her, while Tricia valiantly attempted to reveal the truth about Leena’s duplicitous nature. However, in a heart-wrenching twist, Allen was forced to make an impossible choice: saving one life meant sacrificing the other, and he chose to extend his aid to “Esther”, leaving Tricia’s grasp to slip away, sending her plummeting to her untimely demise.

The aftermath of this tragedy saw Allen’s focus shift to Leena, whom he had initially believed to be Esther. As he gazed upon her face, a shocking discovery was made: the prosthetic teeth that had been a crucial part of her disguise now lay on the rooftop, exposed for all to see. Realizing she had been perpetuating a ruse, Leena’s attempts to justify her actions fell flat as Allen condemned her with a scathing rebuke, branding her a monster.

Seething with rage and fueled by an apparent love-turned-obsession, Leena responded by launching Allen off the rooftop, sending him to his untimely end. As the flames engulfed the burning building, Leena donned her Esther persona once more, departing the inferno while meticulously wiping away the telltale signs of blood from her face.

In the aftermath of this chaos, “Esther” found herself relocated to an orphanage, where she waited patiently for a new family to take her in, unaware of the tumultuous events that had transpired before her.
