Where does Rani relocate to after the events of Haseen Dillruba?

Plot Summary

Two months after the tumultuous events of Haseen Dillruba, Rani (Taapsee Pannu) has relocated to Agra, where she runs a beauty parlor with precision and poise. Meanwhile, Rishu (Vikrant Massey), now operating under the alias Ravi, navigates his new life as a delivery boy with a prosthetic hand. He supplements his income by taking on various odd jobs, including appliance repair and tuition classes, ensuring a steady stream of cash to fund their ultimate escape plan.

Although living separate lives in an effort to avoid detection, Rani and Rishu maintain a clandestine connection via phone calls, meticulously planning their next move - a two-month countdown to their flight to Thailand. As they save every rupee, the couple’s anticipation grows, along with their resolve to evade capture.

However, fate has other plans as news of the Hathni Kund Barrage’s catastrophic failure spreads, releasing a horde of crocodiles into the Yamuna River, threatening to engulf Agra and Uttar Pradesh in its wake. Amidst this chaos, Rani finds herself courted by Abhimanyu (Sunny Kaushal), the landlady’s physician, who harbors romantic feelings for her. Though unrequited, Rani politely rebuffs his advances.

Rishu, too, faces a similar predicament as Poonam (Bhumika Dube), his landlady, makes overtly flirtatious overtures towards him. Her desire is not rooted in love but rather a fleeting lust for a one-night stand. Abhimanyu, on the other hand, has a deep understanding of basic medicine and human anatomy, courtesy of his training as a Compounder.

As Rani prepares to join Abhimanyu at the movies, he surprises her with balcony tickets, hoping to create an intimate setting. However, fate intervenes when the Khannas - Rani’s landlord and landlady - abandon their home for a spices convention, leaving the place empty. Rani seizes the opportunity to invite Rishu over for a night of passion, forgetting all about Abhimanyu in the process. The latter feels jilted by her indifference.

Just as Rani thinks she can breathe a sigh of relief, A.C.P Kishore Rawat (Aditya Srivastava) and Senior Inspector Manav Shukla (Saanand Verma), fresh from their investigation into Neel’s murder, arrive in Agra to pay Rani a visit. They reveal that they have uncovered the truth about her involvement in the crime, having read the book that inspired her desperate cover-up.

As the stakes escalate, Rishu and Rani become increasingly vigilant, cutting off communication with each other. In a bold move, Rishu summons Rani to a public phone booth, using a separate phone to reassure her that they have nothing to worry about - Kishore has no concrete evidence, and she should remain steadfast in the face of potential interrogation.

As the investigation unfolds, Mritunjay “Monty” Paswan (Jimmy Sheirgill), Neel’s uncle and driven by a thirst for vengeance, leads the charge to prove the guilt of Rani and Rishu. Monty’s keen instincts lead him to uncover a trail of clues, including a mysterious individual registered as Naitik Verma, who had been communicating extensively with Rani over the past few months. Rani’s claim that Naitik was merely a friend is met with skepticism by Monty, who is determined to unravel the tangled web of deceit. His scrutiny also reveals frequent calls made by “Naitik” to a travel agent, which he believes is merely a pseudonym for Rishu himself. With Rishu’s plans foiled and his escape route blocked by Monty’s swift capture of the travel agent (Pramod Rana), the stakes are raised.

Meanwhile, A.C.P. Rawat questions Poonam about Rishu, but she remains tight-lipped, refusing to confirm their suspicions. Panicked, Rani resorts to desperate measures and proposes marriage to Abhimanyu, a union that would serve as a clever diversion from her true intentions. Rishu reluctantly agrees to the arrangement, which leaves Abhimanyu stunned but ultimately accepting of their platonic relationship.

As they navigate their strange new life together, Abhimanyu reveals to Rani that his love for her had been the only thing keeping him from taking his own life after the loss of his parents and other loved ones. Despite the unconventional nature of their marriage, Rani and Abhimanyu maintain a strong bond, with Abhimanyu harboring a secret desire to deepen their connection.

One fateful day, Rani’s keen observational skills lead her to uncover a shocking revelation: Poonam is attempting to kiss Rishu in his own home. Crushed by this betrayal, Rani flees the scene, leaving behind a trail of emotions. Rishu, sensing Rani’s distress, chases after her and confronts her about her accusations, reminding her of his unwavering devotion to their love.

As Poonam trails behind Rishu to the clinic, he cunningly promises to pay her a visit once she leaves, thus placating her demands to depart. However, Abhimanyu’s intervention takes an unexpected turn when he proposes a deal: if Rishu accompanies Poonam, he’ll secure Rani in exchange. But Rishu’s skepticism only fuels Abhimanyu’s insincerity, and he insists it was all just a joke. Moreover, Abhimanyu discovers that his associate Lallan had paid a visit to the clinic during his absence, with Rishu inadvertently granting him entry.

As tensions escalate, Abhimanyu reveals a dark secret to Rishu: the gruesome murder of his uncle, aunt, and their two children as retribution for betraying his father’s business. Frightened, Rishu lashes out at Abhimanyu, who promptly locks him away. However, Rishu’s resilience eventually allows him to escape.

The night preceding Rani and Rishu’s planned escape, Abhimanyu unleashes a disturbing display of psychopathy on Rani, revealing his true nature. Fearing for her life, she flees to the police, recounting Abhimanyu’s confession about the heinous crime. In her desperation, she confides in Monty that Rishu is still alive and faces imminent danger from Abhimanyu.

Tragedy strikes when a charred van containing two bodies is discovered, identified as Poonam and Abhimanyu. This development leads to Rani’s arrest, with the police publicizing her mistreatment in custody. However, this ploy proves effective, drawing Rishu out of hiding. He agrees to surrender if Rani is released at a designated railway bridge, allowing them a final moment together. Monty acquiesces.

At the appointed meeting point, surrounded by police, Rishu and Rani share a poignant reunion. But just as they begin to reconcile, a seemingly innocent police officer emerges, revealed to be Abhimanyu in disguise. He attempts to eliminate Rani for her perceived betrayal, sparking a fierce struggle between the two men that ultimately sends all three plummeting into the crocodile-infested river below. As the waters close over them, their bodies remain lost, and they are presumed dead.

Monty, however, refuses to let the matter rest, doggedly pursuing the truth. His investigations yield two crucial revelations: Lallan, Abhimanyu’s associate, and Poonam had visited Rishu shortly before Abhimanyu hid him away. These findings suggest that Abhimanyu might have been masquerading as his own corpse, with Lallan possibly providing the snake used in the murder.

The puzzle begins to unravel when Monty discovers that Rani left her house two hours prior to turning herself in at the police station, allowing Rishu to sneak in undetected. This new information prompts Monty to conclude that the events at the bridge were masterfully orchestrated by Abhimanyu.

As the fog of deception lifts, a series of jarring flashbacks exposes the intricate web of deceit woven by Abhimanyu (character). In a desperate bid to evade the long arm of the law, the trio concocts a plan to stage their own demise. With calculated precision, Abhimanyu silences Poonam and Lallan, the pesky witnesses who threatened to unravel their scheme. Seizing the opportunity, he fakes his own death, leaving behind a trail of confusion and chaos.

Meanwhile, Rishu finds himself unwittingly trapped in this charade, as Abhimanyu secretly removes his prosthetic arm underwater during their staged escape from the river. Helpless and unable to swim, Rishu becomes an easy prey for the lurking crocodile, his fate sealed. As Rani and Abhimanyu make a narrow escape, they leave behind the lifeless body of their supposed friend, presumed dead.

The passage of time brings new beginnings to Deosar village, where Rani has traded her tears for a teaching job, while Abhimanyu has established himself as a clinic owner. However, beneath the surface, the embers of deceit continue to smolder. In a calculated move, Rani extends an invitation to Abhimanyu and Monty to join her at the edge of a cliff, where the latest Dinesh Pandit novel serves as a sinister catalyst. The tome in question reveals the diabolical plan concocted by Rishu and Abhimanyu to lure crocodiles away from the railway bridge using meat, cleverly diverting attention 2 kilometers away.

As the truth begins to unravel, Rani confronts Abhimanyu with her newfound knowledge, only to watch him crumble under the weight of his own deception. Seizing the moment, she takes a leap of faith off the cliff, plummeting towards the water below. Monty, ever the vigilant detective, is hot on Abhimanyu’s heels, ready to pounce and bring justice to those who have wronged. But in a stunning twist, flashbacks reveal that Rishu had, in fact, survived his fateful encounter with the crocodile, only to later reunite with Rani and share the shocking truth. As Rani recovers from her fall, she finds solace in the arms of Rishu, and together they escape the clutches of their deceitful past.
