The film opens with Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, an ASI archaeologist who is skeptical about the widely accepted belief that the Ram Setu is a man-made structure, which brings into question the historical authenticity of the Ramayana. Currently working on the restoration of the Bamyan Buddha statues in Afghanistan, he stumbles upon a buried treasure containing ancient Indian coins from the 7th century. In the midst of this discovery, the Taliban launches an attack on the site, compelling Aryan to seek refuge near the Buddha statues. During his escape, he falls into a crevice and slides several hundred feet into a cave that houses a reclining Buddha statue. Eventually, Aryan manages to transport the treasure to Pakistan, where he lives with his wife, Gayatri, and son, Kabir.
Soon after, he is confronted with a challenge: to prove that the Ram Setu is simply a natural formation, as desired by the businessman Indrakant (Nassar), who has financial motives tied to this outcome. Indrakant aims to destroy the Ram Setu to develop a shipping canal, but his plan is obstructed by a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court. Aryan’s lack of belief in God positions him as the ideal candidate to undertake this contentious research and provide a definitive answer.
Submitting his report to the court, Aryan claims that without evidence of Lord Ram’s existence, the Ram Setu must be deemed a natural formation. This assertion leads the court to request further reconsideration for the sake of maintaining the nation’s faith and cultural harmony. His wife, Gayatri, is furious at Aryan for challenging the deep-seated cultural beliefs of their society.
Indrakant proposes to finance Aryan’s expedition to help him gather scientific evidence for a new report, though Aryan initially declines. Faced with societal backlash against his family for his controversial position, he ultimately decides to embark on the expedition to uncover the truth.
The adventure takes Aryan to the Pushpak Alpha, Indrakant’s ship anchored off Tamil Nadu, near the Ram Setu. Here, he collaborates with a diverse team, including Dr. Gabrielle (Jeniffer Piccinato), a Brazilian geologist, and Dr. Sandra Rebello (Jacqueline Fernandez), while Project Manager Bali (Pravessh Rana) oversees the operations. Equipped with an Exo-suit designed for underwater exploration, Aryan sets out to conduct rigorous scientific research.
As he delves into the subjects of geology and archaeology, Aryan collects samples from the base of the bridge, which reveal sediments dating back to an astonishing 18,000 years. However, his quest for concrete evidence leads him to pursue samples from the actual bridge, ultimately discovering a rock that dates to 5000 BC, suggesting human intervention in the creation of the Ram Setu. Sandra also uncovers evidence of deliberately planted corals forming part of the bridge structure, further convincing Aryan of its man-made origin.
In a turn of events, a storm causes the submersible carrying Aryan, Sandra, and Gabrielle to lose power in Sri Lankan waters. Aryan realizes that Bali has sabotaged their mission, but they manage to escape thanks to AP (Satyadev Kancharana), a local guide. Together, they navigate perilous situations and discover ancient documents and maps hidden in the Jaffna public library.
While pursuing evidence, they encounter numerous threats, including being targeted by Indrakant’s men. Tragedy strikes when Gabrielle is shot during their escape, losing crucial evidence. Following a harrowing series of events, including the kidnapping of his wife, Aryan perseveres to uncover the lost legacy of the Ramayana, ultimately leading him to the doorsteps of the Ram Setu’s historical significance.
The narrative peaks as Aryan confronts the legal battle against Indrakant’s machinations in court, producing evidence and historical references to assert that the Ram Setu requires protection just as other important monuments do. He unveils the realization that AP could represent a descendant of Hanuman, helping him in his quest.
In a gripping resolution, Aryan’s efforts culminate in a landmark decision by the court, demanding the government substantiate claims that the Ram Setu is not a creation of Lord Ram, thus averting its destruction. With emotional and historical threads intertwined, the film concludes on a powerful note, echoing themes of belief, identity, and the quest for truth.
