What do Laura and Kevin's chance meeting at the coffee shop trigger?
A whimsical, dual-perspective romantic comedy unfolds as we follow the chance encounter of two twenty-somethings at a coffee shop in Los Angeles. Set against the backdrop of a superficial singles scene, this tale dives deep into the quest for genuine love.
Laura (Abby Wathen), an actress facing a mountain of misfortunes both in her career and love life, crosses paths with Kevin (Michael Rady), an aspiring screenwriter longing to escape a dull relationship with the airy-headed Cyndy (Deja Kreuzberg). After a disastrous audition, Laura finds herself in the coffee shop, where fate takes a turn—she accidentally drenches Kevin with her drink and scrambles to apologize as he rushes off to a pivotal pitch meeting.
Laura’s best friend, Mindy (Meghan Markle), a carefree party girl in LA, wishes to aid Laura in her attempts to navigate the dating scene, albeit to no avail. As the days slip by, both Laura and Kevin can’t shake off thoughts of each other. But in a bustling city like Los Angeles, where the possibilities are endless, will they ever cross paths again?
In a twist of fate, both decide to return to the coffee shop. Laura waits for hours, while Kevin is delayed by his agent who wants a look at his latest script. Just as Laura decides to leave the café, what seems like a close encounter falls through—they miss each other by inches.
Next comes Plan B. Eager to find each other, Laura starts a profile on an online dating site, sharing her story and inviting responses. Kevin, on the other hand, concocts a fake audition knowing it will catch Laura’s attention. A series of bizarre applicants respond to Laura’s ad, while she fails to show up for the audition Kevin set up.
Life has other surprises in store: Kevin’s script is snagged by Terri Preston (Sean Young), and Laura is asked out by the casting director from her audition. Their paths ultimately converge at a nightclub, where Kevin breaks things off with Cyndy, leaving her heartbroken in the bathroom—where Laura, ever the compassionate soul, lends a hand. Meanwhile, Mindy takes a liking to Kevin’s agent, leading her to the VIP lounge where Kevin wallows in solitude after his breakup.
As fate would have it, Laura endures a dreadful dinner date with her casting director, and Kevin shares a flirty night with Mindy. Although he turns down a tempting offer for a one-night stand with Mindy, she manages to persuade him to stay the night.
The following morning brings an awkward reunion—Laura mistakenly believes Kevin to be just another of Mindy’s one-night flings and tells him to scram. However, after a revealing conversation with Mindy, who sets the record straight, the girls embark on a mission to track Kevin down.
Feeling disheartened, Laura asks Mindy to visit the Hollywood sign, longing for inspiration. As Mindy returns, she finds Kevin at the door, waiting for Laura. Their eyes meet, and in a perfect moment, they share a kiss, igniting the hope that perhaps love is just around the corner.
