Plot Summary

Camille, an 18-year-old Long Island native, finds herself at a crossroads after a skateboarding injury forces her to re-evaluate her life. Her conservative single mother imposes a strict ban on skateboarding, but Camille’s passion for the sport only intensifies. When she discovers that Skate Kitchen, a collective of female skaters she admires on Instagram, is hosting a meeting in New York City, she can’t resist the urge to attend.

Though initially reserved, Camille is warmly welcomed by the group, who embody a spirit of rebellion and nonconformity. Her new friends introduce her to a world beyond her wildest dreams, where smoking cannabis and exploring sexual freedom are seen as liberating choices. As Camille navigates this uncharted territory, she’s forced to confront the contradictions between her mother’s expectations and her own desires.

When a chance encounter with Skate Kitchen member Janay leads to an invitation to stay with her, Camille finds herself torn between her loyalty to her new friends and her longing for independence. Meanwhile, her mother’s increasing suspicions prompt Camille to concoct elaborate lies, which ultimately lead to her skateboarding privileges being revoked.

In the aftermath of a violent confrontation between her mother and Skate Kitchen members at a skate park, Camille is forced to re-evaluate her priorities. She finds solace in a new job at a grocery store and a sense of belonging among the Skate Kitchen crew. However, when she develops a crush on Devon, a skater from a rival group with a complicated history with Janay, Camille’s world begins to unravel.

As tensions within the group escalate, Camille is cast out and forced to confront the harsh realities of the male-dominated skateboarding world. A series of heart-wrenching misunderstandings and miscommunications ultimately lead Camille to return home, where she must face the consequences of her actions. In a poignant epiphany, she realizes that true friendship requires vulnerability, trust, and a willingness to apologize.

The film concludes on a hopeful note as Camille rekindles her relationship with Skate Kitchen, finding closure and redemption through the power of skateboarding and the unwavering support of her new friends.
