What was Charlie's real name?
As Charlie Barret finds his way to a private table at a prestigious restaurant, he unexpectedly encounters a trio of young men: Avery, Max, and Brett. Shortly after, Brett initiates a conversation with Charlie, revealing an intriguing connection to Avery’s father. Initially reluctant, Charlie agrees to join the trio for an evening out, blissfully unaware that their intentions were anything but innocent; they had originally plotted to chloroform him in their vehicle.
Upon realizing their nefarious plan, Charlie’s instincts surge, and he counters their attempts with striking ferocity, managing to fend them off momentarily. Despite his efforts, they ultimately overpower him, and T.K., another member of their group, monitors Charlie as he unconscious. When Charlie awakens, he finds himself surrounded by these three men, who expose a shocking truth: he is actually Carlo Bartolucci, a notorious figure from the organized crime world.
The young men disclose their dire mission: they need Charlie’s help to rescue Avery’s sister, Elise, who has been kidnapped by ruthless criminals demanding a staggering $2 million for her release. Cornered by the urgency of the situation and unable to scrape together the funds, they turn to Charlie, hoping to leverage his underworld connections to secure the necessary resources for the ransom.
Their tactic is painted in a grim reality when they present Charlie with a disturbing reminder of Elise’s situation; a severed finger adorned with her signet ring serves as a chilling warning of the consequences he faces if he does not comply. This revelation puts immense pressure on Charlie, who feels the weight of responsibility to act, knowing that the young woman’s life is hanging in the balance.
As Charlie’s rage intensifies, he threatens those responsible for his predicament with increasing ferocity, yet a moment of clarity compels him to consider their demands. However, the state of his health becomes a pressing concern, as T.K., a medical student, warns that Charlie’s chronic alcoholism could lead to fatal consequences if not treated urgently. In a bid to obtain help, Charlie contacts his lawyer, resulting in the dispatch of Lono, his loyal bodyguard, to search for him.
Simultaneously, Lono embarks on a formidable quest to gather crucial information, employing both charm and force as necessary. In an unexpected twist, his compassionate side emerges when he interacts with the father of Jennifer, a hostess at Charlie’s favored dining spot, who is inadvertently caught in the chaos. As for Charlie, he takes a twisted pleasure in manipulating his captors, engaging them with chilling tales of his violent past, including one harrowing story about how he dealt with former neighbors and gruesomely disposed of their remains.
On another front, Marty, Charlie’s attorney, is on the case as well. He probes into the mystery surrounding his client’s disappearance and, through his inquiries, he visits Lydia, a powerful madam who once sought Charlie’s protection. Lydia provides key contacts that could assist Marty in locating Charlie.
As Lono continues the search, Charlie cunningly plays the trio against one another, gradually squeezing vital information out of them to further his agenda. He discovers that Max, Elise’s boyfriend, is an insider and forces him to confront his role in the abduction. Furious, the young men plot their revenge against Max, but Avery, the mastermind behind the scheme, admits that he concocted the entire plan in a desperate bid to pay off his gambling debts to menacing mobsters.
Chaos ensues when Lono arrives at Ira’s house, prompting the young men to release Charlie from his binds. As the ransom payment is made to the thugs, specification is given that Elise will be dropped off at a nearby hospital. However, tragedy strikes when Avery reaches the hospital to find Elise has not arrived, leaving him heartbroken and bewildered.
In pursuit of the captors, Charlie and Lono confront the kidnappers and demand the ransom money back. Upon discovering the suitcase purported to contain $2 million is suspiciously light, they deduce that they have been deceived and take action against the thugs. Ultimately, it becomes evident that Max and Elise orchestrated the entire plot together, plotting to take the ransom for themselves.
As Charlie and Lono chase Max and Elise to a remote island, the tragic duality of their motivations is laid bare. Despite an understanding of their bond, Charlie realizes he cannot let them escape justice. In a shocking finale, he orders Lono to eliminate both of them, bringing a swift and brutal end to the chaotic events that have unfolded.
The tale concludes with Charlie and Lono adrift on a boat, gazing into the horizon as the screen fades to a brilliant red, signifying the dark culmination of their twisted adventure.
