Plot Summary

U.S. Marine Corps Captain Brad Paxton is living with his wife, Kate Paxton, an archaeologist, and their daughter in New York City. He remains haunted by the shadows of his experiences in Syria. Following a speech at a conference, Kate journeys to Morocco for an archaeological project, where she encounters Jean Rashidi, a French-Algerian archaeologist. As Kate and her team venture into the desert in search of an ancient city, they inadvertently cross into Algeria’s borders. This unfortunate mistake leads to their kidnapping by local insurgents, although Moroccan Amir Jadid is released shortly after.

Upon receiving distressing news regarding Kate, Brad rushes to Rabat, where he meets with the Moroccan government’s Cabinet member, Younes Laalej, a former U.S. soldier who had served alongside him. Despite objections from Tom Fitzgerald, U.S. Ambassador Earl Williams reluctantly agrees to accompany Younes and Brad in the operation to gather intelligence. They soon discover that the notorious terrorist leader Jaafar El Hadi is in hiding and wanted by Interpol. Meanwhile, the insurgents vote on Kate’s fate, threatening to kill her if a ransom of ten million dollars is not paid by the end of the night.

With the aid of the counter-terrorism agency, Brad and Younes manage to pinpoint El Hadi’s compound located in Abadla. As they set off on the hour-long drive, Williams communicates with the U.S. President to request the deployment of NAVY SEALs for support. Under the cover of night, Brad and Younes engage the insurgents, successfully eliminating most of them. Brad discovers and hides Kate during the chaos. However, tragedy strikes when Jean is executed after the French government fails to pay the ransom. Confronting El Hadi, Younes is coerced into demanding that the government transfer the ransom into El Hadi’s offshore account. Just as El Hadi attempts to escape, the SEALs arrive and eliminate him and the remaining insurgents.

In a desperate move, Brad and Younes explode the compound but are knocked out, leading the SEALs to believe they are dead as they carry Kate to safety. The following day, Brad reunites with Kate at the Algeria-Morocco border. Later, Amir Jadid meets Fitzgerald, who praises his courage and offers him American citizenship and a position as a CIA asset. However, this moment of hope is short-lived as Jadid is killed shortly after, revealing Fitzgerald’s true colors as a lobbyist for an oil company financing terrorist groups. In an unexpected twist, while Fitzgerald and his associates leave the building, Younes discreetly observes and warns Brad of the corruption they are embroiled in.
