Scary Movie 2 2001

The sequel to Scary Movie kicks off with a comical homage to The Exorcist, showcasing Megan Voorhees (Natasha Lyonne) becoming possessed. Two priests, Father McFeely (James Woods) and Father Harris (Andy Richter), attempt to exorcise the demon but things spiral out of control. Amidst a chaotic series of Exorcist-style vomiting, Megan insults McFeely’s mother, prompting him to shoot her in a moment of distress.

Flash forward a year, and we find Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris), Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall), Ray Wilkins (Shawn Wayans), and Shorty Meeks (Marlon Wayans) navigating college life, far from the harrowing incidents of their past. Though ostensibly dead from the previous movie, they have concocted a story about their near-death experiences—a deleted scene adds layers to why they’re still kicking. As they adapt, Alex Monday (Tori Spelling) enters the fray, while Ray grapples with his sexuality alongside his new friends, Tommy (James DeBello) and Buddy (Christopher Masterson). Shorty remains unchanged, still embodying the laid-back stoner persona.

The narrative escalates when Professor Oldman (Tim Curry) and his wheelchair-bound assistant Dwight (David Cross) recruit these unsuspecting college students for a paranormal investigation at the notorious Hell House. With ulterior motives, Oldman seeks to impress college girls, using the teens as unwitting bait. Alongside them is newcomer Theo (Kathleen Robertson), who adds another dynamic to the group.

Upon Cindy’s arrival at Hell House, she encounters a foul-mouthed Amazon parrot and Hanson (Chris Elliott, the odd caretaker with peculiar people skills—and a genetically malformed hand. Chaos ensues that night as strange events unfold: Cindy is assaulted by a cat, toy clowns attack Ray after he and Brenda share an intimate moment, Shorty falls victim to a weed monster, and Alex becomes entangled with a ghost in an unexpected liaison. Realizing they are in danger, the group discovers Oldman’s nefarious plan and decides to flee the haunted mansion.

Tragically, the professor meets his demise at the hands of a ghost with a hideous visage, while the spectral owner of the house, Hugo Kane, seals off their escape routes. Faced with the chilling realization that eliminating the ghost is their only chance at survival, the teens employ an array of bizarre gadgets provided by Dwight in a frantic effort to fend off the supernatural threat. The ensuing chase has Cindy pursued by a skeletal apparition and Brenda finds herself engaging in a battle of wits as she demolishes his bones. In a comically absurd encounter, Shorty finds himself face to face with the ghost responsible for the professor’s death, resorting to a paper bag to obscure her appearance.

As circumstances mount, Hanson falls under possession, leading Cindy, Brenda, and Theo to mimic Charlie’s Angels in a futile attempt to rescue him, resulting in a comedic showdown. Ultimately, they resort to using Cindy as bait to lure the ghost into a trap, executing a plan that culminates in the ghost’s destruction.

In the aftermath, two months later, Cindy finds herself begrudgingly caring for the chatty parrot while exploring a blossoming relationship with Buddy. Their outing takes a turn when Buddy inexplicably vanishes, just as Cindy notices Hanson at a hot dog stand. In a shocking twist, she screams, “No!” only for Hanson to hilariously respond, “Yes!” Moments later, he meets his end when he’s struck by a car driven by Shorty, who is caught in a compromising situation with the ghost—her face humorously hidden beneath a bag to mask her disfigurement.
