What event causes Calvin to end up in Camelot?
In the sun-drenched area of Reseda, Los Angeles, 14-year-old Calvin Fuller [Calvin Fuller] stands ready to bat for his baseball team, the Knights. However, destiny has other ideas when the ground begins to shake violently, opening a chasm that swallows him whole. He finds himself plummeting through time and ultimately lands with a thud on the helmet of a 6th-century black knight. The astonishing news of his arrival travels swiftly through the court of Camelot, reaching King Arthur [King Arthur], who perceives Calvin as the prophesied savior he had long awaited. He graciously dines with Calvin and invites him to partake in a splendid feast at the court.
Under the mentorship of Sir Kane [Sir Kane], Calvin begins rigorous knight training, dazzling the inhabitants of Camelot with his incredibly advanced skill set. He wields a CD player blasting rock and roll hits, a versatile Swiss Army knife, and inline roller skates that leave everyone astonished. His unique “magic” gains him admiration, but not without piquing the jealousy of Lord Belasco [Lord Belasco], Arthur’s devious advisor, who is secretly plotting the downfall of the king.
Amidst forming a close bond with Princess Katey [Princess Katey], Calvin finds himself captivated by her charm while realizing her older sister, Sarah [Sarah], holds a secret affection for Sir Kane. Meanwhile, Lord Belasco exploits the situation to his advantage by kidnapping Katey and framing Calvin for murder. He demands that Sarah marry him, threatening death for Katey if she does not comply. Just as Belasco is on the verge of capturing Calvin, Sarah heroically intervenes, freeing him and revealing that Katey is safe.
Calvin races back to King Arthur’s court brandishing evidence of Belasco’s treachery. Playing a clever game, Arthur misleads his knights to help Calvin escape, allowing them to disguise themselves as common folk and set off on a bold rescue mission to reclaim Katey from the clutches of the nefarious Lord Belasco. During a stroll through the bustling crowd, Calvin confides in Arthur about Belasco’s long-standing theft from the people, which has cultivated a negative perception of Arthur’s leadership. With renewed purpose, Arthur vows to become a more caring and just king.
Together, they discover the castle where Katey is imprisoned, only to encounter a fierce confrontation. Calvin reinvigorates Arthur’s resolve by presenting him with Excalibur, a legendary sword bestowed upon him by Merlin. After an intense battle, they successfully rescue Katey; however, their success is short-lived as Belasco’s loyal henchman, Richard, seizes her once more, threatening her from above a moat. Quick thinking Calvin uses the laser pointer from his CD player to disorient Richard, enabling them to save Katey. Arthur, impressed by Calvin’s bravery, knights him as a noble of the Round Table.
The urgency intensifies upon their return to Camelot as Belasco tries to coerce Sarah into a forced marriage. To put an end to his tyranny once and for all, Arthur announces a jousting tournament, with Sarah’s hand in marriage as the ultimate prize. As the competition heats up, Sir Kane triumphs and faces off against Belasco in a climactic final round. Sensing victory, Belasco employs a magnifying crystal to blind Kane, causing chaos. Furious, Sarah storms away, prompting Calvin to urge Arthur to delay Belasco from declaring victory too soon.
As time runs out, Kane miraculously rebounds, jousting skillfully despite being without a helmet. The crowd holds its breath as he unseats Belasco, securing an unexpected win. However, the surprising twist reveals that it is not Kane, but Calvin, underneath the knightly armor, who stands victorious. Just as Belasco attempts to strike down Calvin, the mysterious black knight intervenes and defeats him, saving Calvin from imminent danger.
In an astonishing twist, the identity of the black knight is unveiled to be Sarah herself, earning her the admiration of everyone, including King Arthur. With her victory established, Sarah proudly selects Kane as her partner, while Belasco’s machinations are thwarted and he is exiled from Camelot for good.
Calvin, having honored his agreement with Arthur, receives Merlin’s promise for his return to the present. With a heavy heart, he bids farewell to both Arthur and Katey, their bond undeniably strong. Suddenly transported back to the 20th century just before his swing, Calvin now stands ready and self-assured at the plate. With a newfound confidence, he connects flawlessly, launching the ball into the expanse—achieving a remarkable home run that will echo in history.
As his teammates, including Katey, rush to congratulate him, Arthur watches proudly from the sidelines, his gaze fixed on Calvin. Meanwhile, Arthur finds himself whittling a piece of wood with the very same pocketknife gifted to him by Calvin—a heartfelt emblem of their expanded connection. The ball soars into the distance, where Merlin awaits. With a playful wink at the camera, he quips, > “Taught that kid everything he knows,” encapsulating the incredible journey they shared.
