Dr. Richard Walker, played by Harrison Ford, is a dedicated surgeon who travels to Paris with his wife, Sondra, for a medical conference. Their arrival takes a troubling turn when Sondra struggles to unlock her suitcase in their hotel. It quickly dawns on Richard that she has mistakenly taken the wrong one from the airport.

As fate would have it, while Richard is in the shower, his wife mysteriously vanishes from their hotel room, leaving him bewildered and frantic. Still groggy from jet lag, he ventures into the hotel seeking help from the uninterested staff, but his efforts yield little. It isn’t until a vagrant in a café claims he witnessed Sondra being forcibly taken away that Richard’s skepticism starts to crack. The discovery of Sondra’s ID bracelet on the pavement compels him to contact the Paris police and the US embassy, but the responses he receives are dishearteningly bureaucratic, leaving him with a sinking feeling that nobody will actively search for her.

Determined to find his wife, Richard continues his quest, aided only by a sympathetic yet cautious hotel desk clerk. Along his harrowing journey, Richard unexpectedly stumbles across a murder scene. It is here that he meets the street-smart Michelle, played by Emmanuelle Seigner, who accidentally grabbed his wife’s suitcase at the airport. Michelle, albeit a career smuggler herself, finds herself reluctantly drawn into Richard’s plight. Together, they race against time to uncover what secrets lie within the switched suitcase and potentially barter for Sondra’s safe return.

The shocking revelation unravels that concealed within a small replica of the Statue of Liberty is a krytron—a critical electronic switch utilized in nuclear detonators. The gripping narrative builds to a climactic confrontation along the River Seine, where Richard’s wife is finally released. However, the drama escalates into violence as a firefight erupts between Arab and Israeli agents. Tragically, while the Arab agents fall, Michelle is caught in the crossfire, succumbing to her injuries with Richard and Sondra by her side.

Overwhelmed with grief and anger, Richard makes a heart-wrenching decision, casting the krytron into the river as helpless Israeli agents look on. With the calamity behind them, the Walkers prepare to leave the City of Lights, forever altered by the chaos that unfolded during their trip.
