In the scorching summer of 1994, Mexico was grappling with a severe economic crisis that drastically altered countless lives. For Renato Murguia, this upheaval compelled his father, Flavio, to uproot their family and embark on a challenging journey to the United States in search of a more promising financial future. While Flavio promised to return shortly, his vow remained unfulfilled, leaving Renato with a lasting sense of abandonment.

Fast forward 25 years, and Renato has evolved into a prosperous aviation executive, living in the picturesque town of San Miguel, engaged to Pamela, and eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child. However, just as he is about to marry, Katherine unexpectedly arrives, revealing herself as Flavio’s second wife and delivering troubling news: his estranged father is gravely ill and wishes to see Renato in Chicago.

Reluctantly, Renato boards a flight to the Windy City, only to find that Asher, a mysterious stranger he met at a bustling coffee shop, is actually his long-lost brother. This shocking revelation shakes Renato’s foundations even further when Flavio requests one last favor from both of them: to find Eloise and deliver an envelope to the enigmatic Evaristo.

Although wrestling with lingering resentment, Renato initially refuses his father’s plea and storms out of the hospital in anger. This decision swiftly proves fatal, as Flavio’s health rapidly declines, and he passes away within 24 hours.

As Renato attends the funeral alongside Asher, he begins to comprehend the heavy burden of their father’s death. After a moment of exhaustion, he slips into a restless sleep, only to be jolted awake in the unfamiliar surroundings of a rustic goat farm. Asher is seen chasing after a small goat he has named Renatito, blissfully unaware of the danger lurking nearby as armed men pursue them.

Through a heart-pounding sequence of evasive actions, the brothers evade their pursuers, but not without Renato expressing his pent-up anger towards Asher for their unexpected detour. Eventually, they arrive at an old factory in St. Louis, where nostalgia fills the air during their reunion with Evaristo, a friend of Flavio’s who also ventured across the border.

As their adventure deepens, Renato and Asher unravel a series of secrets and revelations that could forever alter their lives. Evaristo recounts Flavio’s quest to gather wealth and return to Mexico, a journey marked by desperation and creativity. Flavio, working in the factory, was inspired by a stroke of genius to create toy planes, which revitalized the company with Katherine’s guidance. Their professional collaboration blossomed into a fleeting yet intense romance, leaving Flavio wracked with guilt for betraying his enduring wife. In a reflective moment, he discreetly used his funds for an arduous trip back to Mexico.

Evaristo’s narration is abruptly interrupted when Asher engages in a brawl with some roughnecks who had wronged him. Renato and Evaristo flee to a modest motel to regroup and decipher the cryptic clues left behind.

The following morning, they set their sights on Oklahoma City, following the trail from the envelope labeled “Mr. B.” At a local pawn shop, they meet the mysterious Mr. B, who presents them with Flavio’s cherished wedding ring, a tangible reminder of their father’s turbulent journey. It turns out that Renato had once been robbed while trying to cross the border, leaving him destitute and seeking refuge in Mr. B’s shop, where the ring had been kept until its rightful owner could reclaim it.

As the story unfolds, Mr. B shares that Renato was later detained by border guards for his unauthorized attempts to enter the country. After a stint in jail, he was unceremoniously dumped on the roadside due to an illness, leaving him vulnerable. Before he concludes his narrative, Mr. B hands them an envelope marked “Eloise,” revealing a photograph of St. Mary’s Convent in El Paso, Texas, enticing them to continue their quest.

As dusk falls, Renato’s frustration escalates, leading him to confront Asher, only to be thwarted when their car unexpectedly runs out of gas. They discover an abandoned cabin stocked with pure ethanol, and Renato hatches a plan to convert the liquor into fuel to resume their journey. However, his plans crumble when he discovers Asher’s role in the theft of his passport. Enraged, Renato confines Asher in the bathroom, allowing him to simmer in discomfort. Yet fate has more in store for them. A border patrol officer arrives after an anonymous tip-off, and Renato finds himself detained among other undocumented immigrants.

The following day, Asher’s timely intervention secures Renato’s release, but not before revealing a shocking twist: their ill-gotten gains had been stolen by the same rednecks they previously encountered at a gas station. Asher and Renato strategize to thwart their captors’ wicked plans involving a goat named Renatito, propelling them toward the US-Mexico border where the stakes reach a new high.

In a moment of desperation, Renato arrives at St. Mary’s Convent, driven by an urgent need for answers. Here, he encounters a compassionate nun who guides him to a mysterious cabinet, whose secrets are only revealed through careful deciphering. With Asher’s help, Renato cracks the code, revealing a DVD from Flavio—the tale of a father, husband, and prisoner-turned-philanthropist—who shares his journey of love, loss, and redemption with his sons.

As Flavio recounts his struggles, the brothers gain insight into their complex relationship with their father. They learn that Flavio’s earlier abandonment left irreversible consequences: he returned to Chicago only to find that Katherine had given birth to Asher—a revelation that sent shockwaves through him. His desire to mend the bond with Renato distanced him from Asher, as he recognized the unique path his younger son was forging.

In this heartfelt confession, Flavio urges his sons to forgive him for his missteps and utilize their newfound understanding as a catalyst for growth—together, as brothers. As the DVD concludes, Renato and Asher are left to ponder the profound implications of their father’s words, mixed with sorrow and a sense of purpose.

The nun then unveils an astonishing truth: Eloise is a genuine flying vessel crafted by Flavio, intended to be passed on to his sons. This revelation ignites a new sense of belonging in Renato, who extends an invitation to Asher and Renatito to join him in celebrating his upcoming union with Pamela. Together, they embark on an unforgettable journey above the breathtaking Sumidero Canyon, a place of significance to Renato and his father.

As the wedding celebrations conclude, Renato strives to build a strong bond with Emilio by sharing his passion for flight and teaching him how to pilot a toy plane. Unfortunately, their joyful moment quickly spirals as an unfortunate accident causes the small aircraft to crash into a nearby house, sending chaos into the air and leaving Renato and Emilio to confront the consequences of their ill-fated yet well-intentioned adventure.
