Who plays Sergeant Joe Gavilan in Hollywood Homicide?

Plot Summary

Sergeant Joe Gavilan (played by …), a homicide detective with the Hollywood Division of the LAPD, is struggling to make ends meet. For seven years, he has been juggling his day job with a lucrative side hustle as a real estate agent. His latest partner, Detective K.C. Calden (played by …), is a younger and more idealistic detective who moonlights as a yoga instructor and harbors aspirations of becoming an actor.

Their current case involves the brutal slaying of four members of rap group H2OClick at a nightclub. As they delve deeper into the investigation, Gavilan and Calden discover that there was a witness who fled the scene, and their pursuit to track him down becomes an all-consuming mission. However, their partnership is put to the test as Gavilan’s financial woes continue to mount, forcing him to prioritize his real estate deal, while Calden chases his dreams of stardom by trying to get scouted by talent agents.

Meanwhile, the manager of H2OClick, Antoine Sartain, takes matters into his own hands and has his head of security eliminate the two hitmen who were hired to take out the rap group. The same security detail had previously been responsible for offing a rival rapper named Klepto, another artist under Sartain’s management.

As Gavilan and Calden dig deeper, they initially believe the murders are gang-related, but their investigation takes an unexpected turn when Calden stumbles upon the bodies of the hitmen at the morgue. The detectives soon realize that the murders were, in fact, orchestrated, and the similarities between the H2OClick and Klepto homicides start to take on a sinister significance.

Gavilan’s search for answers leads him to an undercover officer who reveals that K-Ro, the songwriter behind H2OClick’s hits, has gone missing, casting suspicion on him as the potential murder witness. The detectives’ quest to track down Oliver Robideaux, aka K-Ro, becomes a top priority, especially when they discover his connection to former Motown singer Olivia Robideaux.

Just as Gavilan and Calden are starting to make progress in their case, Internal Affairs Lieutenant Bernard “Bennie” Macko (played by …), with a long-standing grudge against Gavilan, arrives at the station. The two have a history of clashing, dating back to a high-profile case where Gavilan proved Macko wrong years ago. The tension is further exacerbated by the fact that Gavilan’s latest romantic interest, a psychic named Ruby (played by …), has a past connection to Macko.

Macko’s schemes to discredit Gavilan and place both detectives in interrogation only serve to strengthen their partnership, as they work together to clear their names. In a surprising twist, Gavilan offers to help Calden uncover the truth behind his father’s death, which had been shrouded in mystery since Officer Danny Calden was gunned down during a botched sting operation.

As Olivia (no actor name provided) passionately defends her son’s integrity at K-Ro’s doorstep, it becomes clear that Sartain was the mastermind behind a web of deceit. For years, he had been siphoning funds from Klepto, H2OClick, and other clients, leaving them on the brink of financial ruin. The partners’ discovery of this embezzlement prompted Sartain to instruct his head of security, Wasley (no actor name provided), to hire hitmen as a warning to all his clients, including Klepto and H2OClick. Little did they know, Macko was also secretly aligned with Sartain, further complicating the situation.

When Gavilan’s attempts to track down Sartain and Wasley prove futile, he turns to Ruby (no actor name provided) for her unique psychic abilities. Her guidance leads them to a clothing store, where fate intervenes as Sartain and Wasley happen to drive by. This unexpected encounter sets off a high-stakes car chase, culminating in a thrilling foot pursuit with two distinct pursuits unfolding simultaneously.

In the midst of this chaos, Gavilan engages Sartain in a fierce struggle, resulting in the latter’s untimely demise from a fatal fall. Wasley, meanwhile, brandishes his gun at Calden (no actor name provided), boasting about having killed his father. However, Calden cleverly uses his acting skills to distract and disable Wasley, revealing that he had been recording their entire exchange. As the LAPD swarm the scene, Gavilan and Calden reunite as officers, while Macko’s ill-fated attempt to cover up Sartain’s crimes ultimately leads to his own arrest.

Later, Gavilan and Ruby attend a production of A Streetcar Named Desire, in which Calden takes center stage. Amidst the drama on stage, it appears that Gavilan has successfully brokered a real estate deal, allowing Calden to focus on his acting ambitions. However, their evening is cut short by unexpected phone calls from police headquarters, prompting them to leave the play and solidify their partnership in crime-solving.
