Pretty in Pink 1986

In a world where social hierarchies reign supreme, Andie (no last name necessary) navigates the complexities of adolescence from a unique perspective. Growing up in a humble home, she’s always felt like an outsider at school, and her part-time gig at a record store provides a sense of belonging. Her biggest responsibility, however, lies with her father, still reeling from his wife’s departure years prior.

Andie’s closest confidant is Duckie (played by…), who has harbored a secret crush on her since childhood. Their friendship is built on trust and understanding, making it all the more poignant when Blaine, a charismatic wealthy kid, enters the picture. Despite the pressure from his friends to conform, Blaine finds himself drawn to Andie’s quirky charm.

As their flirtation blossoms into a romance, Duckie’s unrequited love is forced to take a backseat. Andie is initially over the moon about her new beau, but reality sets in when she attends one of Blaine’s lavish parties and faces disapproval from his clique. The pair escapes to one of Andie’s favorite haunts – a bar featuring live music – only to be met with a chilly reception from Duckie.

Despite their differing social circles, the couple remains committed to making it work. Blaine asks Andie to prom, but his friend Steff (think: the ultimate party pooper) gets under his skin, ultimately convincing him to back out of the date. Devastated, Andie decides to attend prom solo, where she’s reunited with Duckie and the two friends mend their fractured bond.

In a moment of clarity, Blaine realizes his mistake and apologizes to Andie. With Duckie’s blessing, the pair rekindles their romance in the parking lot, surrounded by the neon glow of 80s teen romance magic.
