In the immense void of outer space, a United States-owned satellite unexpectedly disintegrates, scattering its remnants toward Earth. One particular fragment, a beacon, pierces the atmosphere and crash-lands in Australia, where it is immediately consumed by a giant crocodile. At the CIA, Agent Buckwhiler and Deputy Director Reynolds unveil the revealing implications of this unassuming beacon: it possesses the capability to shift global power dynamics, rendering it a prized target for any nation eager to assert its influence. To avert such a scenario, they dispatch agents Robert Wheeler and Vaughn Archer to the sunny beaches of Australia with the mission of retrieving the beacon before it can be seized by others. However, Department Director Ansell has ulterior motives. He clandestinely employs operative Jo Buckley to outmaneuver Wheeler and Archer, with designs on usurping Reynolds’ position.
Simultaneously, in a quaint Australian town, Brozzie Drewitt, a merciless cattle station owner, resolves to eradicate the crocodile that has been preying on her livestock. The Department of Fauna and Fisheries sends Sam Flynn to persuade her to engage professionals to relocate the beast instead of killing it, as doing so would be illegal. Despite Flynn’s warnings about the repercussions, Brozzie tries to take matters into her own hands, only for her plan to backfire spectacularly.
In an unexpected twist, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin and his wife Terri Irwin are filming an episode focusing on Australia’s notorious wildlife when they receive a call from Flynn to help relocate the wayward crocodile. After navigating a series of challenges, Steve finally manages to capture the creature and load it onto his boat. Unbeknownst to the Irwins, Wheeler and Archer are tracking their GPS signals, under the misconception that they have secured the beacon. They notify the CIA, which mistakenly suspects that the Irwins intend to use the beacon to fund an extravagant expansion for Australia Zoo. As Steve and Terri carefully transport the crocodile to its new home, they remain blissfully unaware of the agents tailing them.
As Wheeler and Archer follow the Irwins in a Land Rover Discovery, they misjudge them as poachers looking to steal the crocodile. When Wheeler attempts to intervene by climbing onto the back of the truck, Steve’s instincts kick in, leading to a brief but intense scuffle that sends Wheeler tumbling off the vehicle. The chase intensifies, with the stakes rising for the Irwins, the agents, and the CIA.
Upon reaching the Thomson River, Steve’s initial excitement quickly fades into a mix of disgust and surprise as he uncovers a shiny metallic object amid the crocodile’s waste, which he mistakenly assumes is a discarded children’s toy. Disregarding the strange find, Steve and Terri release the crocodile into the river, only for their victorious moment to be cut short as Wheeler and Archer show up again, relentless in their pursuit of the elusive beacon.
In a last-ditch effort to thwart the agents, Jo Buckley swoops in aboard an ultralight aircraft, dropping explosive sticks of dynamite that sink Wheeler and Archer’s boat. The two agents are left fighting to stay afloat as Steve and Terri watch in alarm, realizing they’ve unwittingly become entangled in an escalating game of cat and mouse.
When the chaos settles, Steve harbors the impression that they are in the middle of a “poacher war” and decides to take decisive action. Displaying his trademark quick reflexes, he lassos Buckley’s aircraft, causing it to crash into the river, miraculously sparing her life. As she swims to shore to notify Ansell of her failed mission, Steve remains oblivious to the true gravity of the beacon’s importance.
Meanwhile, back at CIA headquarters, Wheeler and Archer’s inability to recover the beacon leads to a shift in tactics. The agency opts for extreme measures, enlisting President George W. Bush for approval to deploy military helicopters to track down the Irwins and reclaim the coveted item.
As Steve concludes his show and starts playfully engaging with the beacon, unaware of its true value, military helicopters emerge on the horizon, indicating a new level of intensity in this unpredictable game of cat and mouse.
In the epilogue, Steve reveals that he returned the beacon to the CIA without incident, remaining blissfully ignorant of its significant implications. Brozzie discovers a newfound purpose volunteering for the Department of Fauna and Fisheries, while Wheeler and Archer face disciplinary actions, assigned to work as volunteers at the Irwins’ zoo. As each party grapples with their new roles, Steve reassures viewers that he will always be there to lend a helping hand.
