Clara Scott, a determined mother living in Buffalo, New York, is trying to create a better life for her two sons, Anthony and Jude. After enduring a perilous and abusive relationship with her husband, Richard, who is a police officer, Clara decides to escape to New York City under the pretense of a “vacation.”

Once in New York, Clara and her sons face the harsh realities of homelessness, often relying on their car as a temporary shelter or resorting to shoplifting to get by. Their lives take a turn when they encounter Alice, a compassionate nurse who leads a local church and support group for the homeless. Alice, who has developed a friendship with Jeff, a young man struggling after being fired and evicted, becomes a beacon of hope for the family.

Tragedy strikes when Jude collapses during a fierce snowstorm, necessitating his hospitalization. Meanwhile, Clara forms a bond with Marc, an ex-convict. Initially, Anthony harbors distrust towards Marc, but he gradually begins to warm up to him. It’s revealed that Anthony has discovered that Richard committed a series of heinous crimes against women, which he found on Richard’s computer. With Marc’s support, Clara finds the motivation to hire a lawyer and enlists the help of Marc’s friend, John Peter, to gather evidence against Richard.

In a fit of rage, Richard violently assaults his father when he refuses to assist him, but justice prevails when he is eventually convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his crimes.

Despite returning home, the bond between Clara and Jude remains fragile, as their experiences on the streets have left emotional scars. Nevertheless, time passes, and Jude comes to forgive his mother. The film reaches a hopeful conclusion as Jeff successfully finds employment at a restaurant run by Timofey, showcasing the resilience of individuals striving for a brighter future even in the face of adversity.
