Bill Nighy

Bill Nighy, born as William Francis Nighy on 12th December 1949, is an acclaimed British actor known for his extensive work across stage, television, and film. His illustrious career began with a Liverpool theatre company and he later debuted on the London stage with the Royal National Theatre in the year 1977. His acting prowess has earned him numerous recognitions, including a British Academy Film Award and a Golden Globe Award.

Nighy has been part of acclaimed stage productions such as David Hare's 'Pravda', Harold Pinter's 'Betrayal', and Anton Chekhov's 'The Seagull'. On the big screen, Nighy rose to international fame with his role in 'Love Actually', which earned him a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. He has portrayed varied characters such as Viktor in the 'Underworld' film series and Davy Jones in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film series. He has also acted in popular films like 'Shaun of the Dead', 'The Constant Gardener', and 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1'. Nighy's television roles have equally been praised, earning him another BAFTA Award for his role in the BBC One series 'State of Play'.

Nighy was born in Caterham, Surrey and grew up in a Roman Catholic family. As a child, he was known to be shy and he harboured a great love for literature. He left the school at the age of 15 and later trained for the stage at the Guildford School of Dance and Drama. Despite being brought up as a Roman Catholic, Nighy gave up practising his faith during his teenage years.
