In the vibrant world of the San Fernando Valley’s pulsating EDM scene, Cole Carter, a 23-year-old DJ and former track star, is on an ambitious quest to secure his place as a leading record producer. Though he left college behind, his unwavering devotion to music fuels his determination. He is joined by a close-knit group of friends: Mason, an aspiring club entrepreneur; Ollie, who dreams of acting; and Squirrel, whose exceptional skills in mathematics prove invaluable. Together, they strive to realize their dream of establishing a nightclub, with Mason paving the way for Cole’s debut performance.

It is during this fateful night that Cole crosses paths with the illustrious DJ James Reed, a once-celebrated figure in the industry. James invites Cole to a party where they indulge in a spliff laced with Phencyclidine (PCP), whisking Cole into an otherworldly and disorienting high. The following day, he wakes up in James’ luxurious home, a world away from his usual reality. There, he meets Sophie, James’ girlfriend and personal assistant, who leaves a profound impact on him as she drives him home.

As Cole and his friends face dwindling prospects from their initial nightclub canvassing, they shift their focus to seeking employment with Paige Morrell, a firm specializing in real estate solutions offering more stability. Meanwhile, James recognizes Cole’s musical talent and invites him to perform at a gathering. Cole’s skills spellbind the crowd, prompting James to refine the young DJ’s artistry and broaden his performance schedule.

Cole’s relationship with Sophie deepens during a college soirée she invites him to. It becomes apparent that Sophie dropped out due to her own past trauma, and Cole’s protective support earns her admiration. The ensuing adventure takes them to Las Vegas for a vibrant electronic music festival. After an unexpected connection, they share an exhilarating one-night encounter that leaves them longing for more.

Back in Los Angeles, James presents Cole with an incredible opportunity to open for him at the highly coveted SummerFest music festival, igniting Cole’s excitement for what lies ahead. However, the dynamics between Cole, James, and Sophie grow increasingly complex, sparking tension that leads to James reevaluating his ties with both. Amidst these disruptions, Squirrel looks for opportunities outside their familiar surroundings, while Mason encourages the friends to celebrate their futures by securing a house together.

Tragedy strikes when Squirrel falls victim to an overdose, sending shockwaves through their tight-knit group. This painful incident compels Ollie to face the grim reality that their dreams might slip away, even as tensions rise between Mason and Ollie regarding the tragedy.

As Cole confronts James about their friend’s death, he learns that Sophie has returned to the valley and is working at a local coffee shop. Determined to channel his pain into creativity, Cole takes to running, allowing the sounds of nature to inspire new sonic compositions for his long-awaited music track. Renewed by this spark, Cole reconnects with James, leading to another chance to perform at SummerFest.

When the day of the festival arrives, Cole electrifies the audience with his infectious beats, weaving in snippets of meaningful exchanges with Sophie and Squirrel. The crowd’s euphoric response, coupled with James’ proud approval, marks a victorious moment for Cole as he embraces his journey.

As the narrative unfurls, each character pursues their individual paths: Ollie steps into the spotlight for a crucial audition, Mason embraces his role as the nightclub’s master of ceremonies, and Cole remains optimistic about nurturing a budding romance with Sophie, who is once again committed to academia. The film concludes on a hopeful note as each character faces the future, brimming with promise and opportunity.

In a heartwarming post-credits scene, the door to Tanya’s home opens to reveal a special gesture from Cole: a shoebox bursting with his hard-earned savings from his adventures. This act of kindness symbolizes Cole’s growth as he looks toward a new beginning, ready to forge ahead in life with renewed purpose.
