Plot Summary

The curtain opens on a flashback scene, set decades prior, where Isaac Netero, the esteemed chairman of the Hunters Association, faces off against Jed, a formidable foe. The outcome of this ancient battle is a decisive victory for Netero, who emerges triumphant in his quest to vanquish evil.

Fast-forward to the present day, and a group of hooded figures infiltrate a maximum-security prison, liberating its inmates and recruiting them for their mysterious agenda. Meanwhile, Gon (voice of) and Killua take a break from their globe-trotting adventures with Kite to pay homage to their friend Zushi at Heaven’s Arena, where the Battle Olympia Tournament is in full swing. As they cheer on Zushi, Wing, and Biscuit in the arena’s main event, Leorio finds himself under attack by the same enigmatic men who had earlier breached the prison walls.

As the tournament reaches its climax, Gon and Killua pay a visit to Netero, who is coincidentally present at the Arena. However, their friendly reunion is short-lived, as the venue is suddenly commandeered by the same group of cloaked individuals. With Gaki substituting for Zushi’s original opponent and proceeding to best him, Shura taking control of the security systems, and Rengoku plunging a knife into her own stomach before placing a curse on Netero that renders his Nen abilities inert, chaos erupts throughout the Arena.

The ringleader of this sinister organization then appears, sending Gon and Killua tumbling from the upper levels of the building. Miraculously, the duo manages to avoid the fall and regroup several floors below, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead as they unravel the mystery surrounding their friend Leorio’s sudden disappearance and the sinister forces now dominating Heaven’s Arena.

As Netero zeroes in on the ringleader, Jed’s true identity as his former friend and leader of “Shadow”, the elite black ops squad, is revealed. It was Jed who once commanded the unit that exploited the dark power of “On”, a malevolent force fueled by the user’s most primal hatred - an ability opposite to Nen. The remnants of Shadow, including Gaki, Shura, and Rengoku, had sought revenge against the Hunter Association for their wrongdoings by forcing them to disclose the “Black Report”, a record of the atrocities committed against the descendants of “Shadow”. This group had once peacefully settled after the organization’s destruction, but were later pursued and hunted down by the government, leaving only three survivors.

Meanwhile, Gon and Killua continued their ascent up the tower, unaware of the impending chaos. Gaki emerges to clash with the duo, while Kurapika, accompanying his employer Neon, finds himself face-to-face with Shura. Amidst this maelstrom, Leorio rises from the sewers, aided by Hisoka, who had been tracking Kurapika. The former’s covenant dictates that losing to a Hunter would mean certain death, prompting Geki to self-destruct after being defeated by Gon and Killua.

As the battle rages on, Kurapika defeats Shura with Leorio’s assistance, but not before the latter infects him with Jed’s blood, rendering his Nen useless. The only solution is for Kurapika to succumb to “On”, a fate he refuses to accept. In a separate encounter, Gon and Killua confront Jed at the rooftop, while Leorio tends to Kurapika’s wounded state. Gon, too, falls prey to Jed’s blood, but chooses to harness “On” to maintain his strength against him.

As the situation unfolds, Killua persuades Rengoku to relinquish her hatred, bringing about her peaceful demise and freeing Netero from her curse. The chairman then confronts Jed, opting not to attack but rather defend against his onslaught until the latter’s malevolent energy dissipates. Gon ultimately purifies “On” within Jed’s body using his own Nen, allowing him to finally find peace in death. With the remnants of Shadow vanquished, Heaven’s Arena returns to its normal state, and the long-awaited Battle Olympia Tournament can at last begin.
