C.J. Walker (a brilliant science whiz) is hell-bent on constructing a time machine alongside her trusted confidant, Sebastian “Bash” Thomas. Their inaugural attempt at temporal manipulation falters mere hours before the academic year’s curtain call.

As C.J. and Sebastian prepare to present their science project to Mr. Lockhart, their affable teacher, they’re met with skepticism. Seeking to bolster their chances of impressing potential scouts, C.J. implores Mr. Lockhart to reconsider their grade. His response is a thought-provoking inquiry into the ethical and philosophical implications of tampering with the fabric of time.

Their second attempt at chronal manipulation proves successful, propelling them 24 hours back in time. C.J., driven by a desire for revenge against her ex-boyfriend Jared, orchestrates a prank that ultimately results in his arm being broken when he’s struck by a car. Sebastian rebukes C.J.’s actions as they narrowly avoid encountering their past selves before returning to the present.

As the Independence Day festivities unfold, C.J.’s older brother Calvin and his friend Dennis depart a party after Jared confronts them over C.J. The duo is suddenly interrupted by two black men rushing down the street, leading to a police car arriving on the scene with an air of suspicion. Misidentifying Calvin and Dennis as the perpetrators they’ve been chasing, one officer takes drastic action, resulting in Calvin’s untimely demise.

Following Calvin’s funeral, C.J. becomes resolute in her quest to alter the course of events, convinced that a second trip back in time can prevent his death. Sebastian shares her concerns about the risks involved but ultimately agrees to join forces with her. They devise a plan to reroute Calvin and Dennis before the fateful shooting, but Jared’s interference and subsequent chase cause them to arrive too late to save their loved one.

Undeterred, C.J. and Sebastian attempt a third foray into the timestream, enlisting the expertise of classmate Eduardo and utilizing his resilient circuit boards. This time around, C.J. seeks to prevent the convenience store robbery from occurring in the first place by warning the shop owner. Past Sebastian finds himself caught in the midst of the chaos, unaware of the events unfolding around him.

In a desperate bid to avoid catastrophe, C.J. successfully warns the owner, who responds by drawing a gun on the robbers. The situation spirals out of control as past Sebastian becomes embroiled in the confrontation, ultimately meeting his demise at the hands of one of the robbers. As present-day C.J. follows past Sebastian’s lifeless form out of the shop, she’s met with a shocking sight: her present-day counterpart, Sebastian, materializes before her eyes, having witnessed the events transpire before disappearing into the ether as the past Sebastian succumbs to his mortal wounds.

As C.J. embarks on her fourth temporal excursion, she’s driven by a sense of urgency to rescue both Sebastian and Calvin from the clutches of danger. The trio converges with Dennis, their timing impeccable as they narrowly escape the jaws of calamity. However, convincing Calvin and Dennis of the precarious situation proves to be an arduous task for C.J., her words falling on deaf ears.

Just as it seems they’ve managed to evade disaster once more, a familiar figure appears on the horizon - the officer who had previously crossed paths with Calvin in a fateful encounter. As the truth begins to unravel, Calvin’s protestations of innocence fall flat in the face of overwhelming evidence. With a heavy heart, Calvin makes the ultimate sacrifice, allowing C.J., Sebastian, and Dennis to escape as he surrenders to his fate.

Back in the present, Sebastian confronts C.J. with a mix of anguish and incredulity, demanding to know just how many times she’s willing to risk altering the fabric of time. With a heavy heart, she reveals that this attempt marks her fourth foray into the past, and that Calvin had tragically met his demise on their third joint adventure together.
