Who is Kelly Ernswiler's love interest?

Plot Summary

Kelly Ernswiler (no stranger to the fervor of historical reenactments) spends his days working alongside love interest Sarah and childhood friend Bart Bowland at their local store. The latter’s family provides an intriguing backdrop: father Abe, a stalwart advocate for those struggling with addiction, having personally overcome five years of dependency; mother Eve, a talented commercial artist with a flair for creativity; and older sister Tabby, soon to tie the knot with charming businessman Miner Weber.

Kelly’s affections are fixated on winning Tabby over, despite her impending nuptials. He becomes a regular visitor at Bart’s household, where he wins approval from patriarch Harrison with his shared passion for war memorabilia and charms matriarch Diana with his thoughtful comments about her exquisite floral arrangements. Kelly also finds himself drawn to Tabby in her workshop, their conversations flowing effortlessly.

As Kelly navigates this complex web of relationships, Sarah extends an olive branch in the form of a spare Aerosmith concert ticket, urging him to break free from his routine and take a chance on life. When Kelly politely but firmly declines, citing his existing commitments (clearly alluding to Tabby), he reveals his true intentions. In the aftermath, tension simmers beneath the surface as Kelly and Bart prepare to execute their plan for Lance’s humiliation.

The scheme unfolds with military precision, involving a street invasion, Lance’s frightened urination, and a victorious videotape recording. Post-mission, the boys unwind with whiskey at Bart’s residence, where they’re later joined by the unconscious form of Bart, slumped in a chair by the fire. As Kelly makes his exit, he pays a visit to Tabby, only to find her distraught and convinced that the marriage is doomed. He offers solace, and their lips meet in a tender moment.

The next day finds Kelly on the set of a war reenactment program, courtesy of Bart’s connections. However, when his cue arrives, Bart remains AWOL. Cast as a jeep driver, Kelly is left to ponder his friend’s whereabouts until Bart bursts forth from the underbrush, confronting him about Tabby’s affections. Initially denying any wrongdoing, Kelly’s silence speaks volumes. As he prepares to drive for his cue, Bart launches a surprise attack, upending the set and leaving chaos in their wake.

The following day, Abe’s struggles with sobriety culminate in another relapse, leaving Kelly emotionally numb to his plight. Undeterred, Abe decides to crash the wedding of Tabby, a pivotal figure from his past, despite being rebuffed by Bart (character A (actor name)) who has grown increasingly exasperated with his antics. Abe seizes an opportunity to slip into Tabby’s limousine as it approaches the venue, and in this intimate setting, he is finally forced to confront the reality that he must mature and take responsibility for his actions.

As he exits the vehicle, Abe’s presence at the wedding sends ripples of confusion throughout the gathering. Seeking solace, he retreats to the rear of the church to retrieve his bike and make a hasty departure, only to cross paths once more with Minor, whose ignorance of recent events allows them to part on amicable terms.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s emotional state is further shaken when he visits the clinic where his father is receiving treatment. His mother’s unexpected arrival at the facility catches him off guard, but her warm reception serves as a welcome respite from the turmoil that has engulfed him.

As the narrative draws to a close, a voicemail message reveals Kelly’s attempt to make amends with the Bowlands for his wayward behavior, as well as an invitation to Bart to meet him at a memorabilia sale, where he will also be returning a cherished gift. This newfound sense of introspection is underscored by a poignant scene in which Kelly strolls hand-in-hand with Sarah through the streets, a marked departure from his previous turmoil.

In a poignant coda, Kelly’s journey full circle as he encounters Lance on their former battleground, only to confess his mistakes and earn a well-deserved punch to the jaw. As he lies on the grass, nursing his bruised jaw, Kelly delivers a telling admission: “I deserved it.”
