In this remake of the classic 1960 film, the tranquil town of Rose Creek faces havoc at the hands of land baron Bartholomew Bogue and his merciless henchmen. Desperate times lead the townspeople to gather in their church, discussing their limited options to safeguard their families and treasured lands from Bogue’s looming greed. Suddenly, Bogue storms in, flanked by his armed entourage, and brazenly declares that he intends to reap profits from Rose Creek. He coldly states that if the town fails to become lucrative within three weeks, he will return, prompting his men to unleash chaos by firing their weapons and subsequently setting the church ablaze.

Amidst the chaos, the brave Matthew Cullen (Matt Bomer) confronts Bogue about his cruelty, only to be gunned down in a horrifying act that leaves his wife, Emma Cullen, and the rest of the townsfolk devastated as they witness fellow citizens falling before them. The brutality of their situation is exemplified as Bogue orders his men to leave the bodies on display as a grim reminder of his power.

Meanwhile, Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), a rugged warrant officer, makes his entrance into town, earning skeptical glances from the locals. Chisolm, inquiring about the infamous outlaw “Powder Dan,” demonstrates his quick-draw skills by taking out an entire bar full of armed men in a flash. After dealing with Powder Dan, he sort of makes quick work of the bartender, revealing the outlaw’s identity. As terrified patrons flee, only the gambler Josh Faraday remains. When confrontation arises with two bitter brothers over a game of cards, Faraday shows his cunning by outsmarting and eliminating them before joining Chisolm on his mission.

Chisolm soon learns from Emma and her ally Teddy Q (Luke Grimes) about the grim situation with Bogue, and moved by their plight, he agrees to intervene. To strengthen their numbers, Chisolm plans to recruit some formidable allies. He instructs Faraday to seek out Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke) in Volcano Springs. The duo arrives just in time to witness a gunfight between Billy Rocks (Byung-hun Lee) and another man, demonstrating their gun-slinging prowess. After a unique introduction, the duo recruits them for their cause.

Next, they find Vasquez, a Mexican outlaw hiding in a house, whom Chisolm proposes to add to their team in exchange for his freedom. After reuniting their new team, they learn about a tracker named Jack Horne. His gritty introduction involves an encounter with outlaw brothers, leading to a compelling offer for the team.

The assembled group later meets Red Harvest, a Comanche warrior whose acceptance into their ranks adds to their diverse ensemble. Riding back into Rose Creek, they confront Bogue’s men and initiate an epic showdown. Horne cleverly orchestrates traps, Red uses his archery skills, and Chisolm leads the charge as tensions rise in town. The townsfolk rally, encouraged by Emma’s fiery spirit, and prepare themselves by undergoing weapon training despite their initial clumsiness.

As Bogue gets word of Chisolm’s return, the stakes heighten. The seven fierce allies guide the townspeople as they bond and grow stronger, all while preparing for an inevitable confrontation. Amidst the laughter and shared meals, anxiety brews, particularly for Robicheaux, who grapples with his past as a sharpshooter and subsequently decides to leave before the impending conflict.

Bogue’s men descend upon Rose Creek, leading to an explosive battle filled with courage and chaos. Bogue himself rides in, backed by the chilling power of a Gatling gun. Faraday, despite being gravely injured, makes a heroic charge towards it, culminating in a stunning explosion that decimates Bogue’s ranks, leaving only a few survivors.

In a final confrontation, Chisolm faces Bogue before the ruined church and delivers justice, reminding Bogue of the atrocities committed against his family. As the dust settles, Emma avenges the fallen. The survivors of Rose Creek extend heartfelt gratitude to Chisolm, Vasquez, and Red for their valor.

As the film concludes, we see the emotional graves of those who sacrificed their lives. Emma’s voice resonates as she reflects on the unforgettable legacy of the men who fought for a cause beyond themselves, declaring their actions to be nothing short of magnificent.
