To All the Boys: Always and Forever 2021

Lara Jean Covey, along with her sisters Kitty and Margot, her father Dan, and their neighbor Trina Rothschild, embarks on a heartfelt journey to Seoul for spring break. During this trip, she seeks to reconnect with her late mother by searching for a lock that her mother had placed on a bridge as a symbol of her love for Dan. When Lara Jean finally locates it, she reads the touching message that accompanies it, which poignantly states, > “for the rest of my life.”

Upon returning home, Lara Jean shares with her boyfriend, Peter Kavinsky, her feelings of having never experienced a romantic “meet-cute.” This revelation takes Peter by surprise, as he fondly recalls their first encounter. With anxiety, Lara Jean awaits the results of her Stanford University application, hoping to attend college alongside Peter. Meanwhile, Dan’s relationship with Trina evolves, leading the family to plan their wedding, which adds another layer of complexity to Lara Jean’s life.

When the admissions decisions arrive, Lara Jean is disheartened to find she was only accepted to her backup schools: the University of California, Berkeley, and New York University, while Stanford denies her. Despite initially leaning towards Berkeley to be closer to Peter, she discovers a love for New York City during a school trip and ultimately decides to attend NYU. When she explains her choice to Peter, his disappointment is evident, leading him to end their relationship on prom night, fearing that their long-distance situation would be too difficult.

Respecting Lara Jean’s wishes, Peter (played by Noah Centineo) skips Dan and Trina’s wedding, opting instead to meet with his estranged father, seeking to mend their broken relationship after years of silence. After the wedding celebrations, Kitty orchestrates a secret meeting between Peter and Lara Jean under the wedding tent. There, Lara Jean discovers a heartfelt letter from Peter hidden in her yearbook, detailing their first meeting in sixth grade and proposing a “contract” to always love each other despite the vast distance of 3,000 miles (4,800 km) between their schools.

When Peter arrives and asks her to sign this proposal, Lara Jean excitedly agrees. The story concludes with Lara Jean reflecting on her relationship with Peter, voicing her desire to cherish what they have, regardless of societal stereotypes about long-distance love. She embraces the hope that their relationship will thrive, allowing them to continue exchanging love letters, turning the distance into a unique opportunity for connection.
