The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003

In the opening sequence of the film, archive footage reveals a police raid at the Hewitt residence. We see two officers surveying the grim surroundings, noting disturbing details such as fingernail scratches and traces of human blood embedded in the walls of the damp basement.

Fast forward to August 1973, five young friends—Erin, Kemper, Morgan, Andy, and Pepper—are heading to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert after a trip to Mexico. As they drive through the desolate stretches of Travis County, Texas, they spot a distressed hitchhiker, portrayed by Lauren German, who ends up in their van. The hitchhiker speaks in riddles about a “bad man,” and in a shocking twist, she takes her own life with a .357 Magnum.

The group, understandably shaken, attempts to get help from the police. They drive to a nearby store where an elderly clerk informs them that the sheriff is at the mill. Venturing to the mill leads them not to the sheriff but to a young boy named Jedediah who tells them his aunt and sheriff are at home, drinking. As Erin and Kemper trek through the woods to seek out the sheriff, the remaining trio stays with the boy.

Arriving at a large, dilapidated plantation house, Erin meets Monty Hewitt, an unsettling amputee who serves as their host. While seemingly polite, Monty uses the encounter to disguise his true intentions, subtly attempting to take advantage of Erin in a shocking manner. Horror escalates when Kemper decides to check on Erin and falls victim to the infamous killer, Thomas Hewitt, the man known as Leatherface, who brutally murders him with a sledgehammer.

As chaos ensues, Sheriff Hoyt, a menacing figure, makes his entrance at the mill, disposing of the hitchhiker’s body and grabbing the attention of the remaining group. With mounting tension, Erin and her friends must navigate a grim situation where danger lurks at every corner. In a harrowing scene, she finds herself attempting to distract Monty while Andy scours the house for Kemper, becoming embroiled in a deadly game with Leatherface.

Despite her efforts to escape, tragedy strikes again when Andy faces the grim reality of losing his leg to Leatherface’s chainsaw. The young group’s fight for survival turns desperate as Erin makes a final attempt to flee in a van, only to be thwarted by Sheriff Hoyt, who manipulates the situation with terrifying control. What follows is a nail-biting sequence where Erin must dodge the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface through the woods.

After a series of brutal encounters, including one where Morgan faces Sheriff Hoyt’s unexpectedly violent nature—illustrated when Hoyt smashes a liquor bottle into Morgan’s face—the group finds themselves further ensnared in a deadly trap orchestrated by the Hewitt family. After a series of escape attempts, Erin endures a traumatic discovery: the evil family is more interconnected than she ever anticipated.

When Erin finally discovers Andy suffering from a horrific fate, the emotional strain leads her down a dark path, forcing her to confront the reality of what must be done for survival. As she makes an escape through a chaotic series of events, she finds herself locked in a deadly confrontation with Leatherface, culminating in a desperate final showdown.

Eventually, as Erin manages to escape from the Hewitts and foil their plans, we return to the hiding location of the remaining brutality in the house. There, reality check reveals the gruesome consequences of the Hewitt family’s madness. The film concludes on a terrifying note, where the horrors inflicted upon them linger long after, illustrating an unsettling truth through police archive footage: “The crime scene was not properly secured by Travis County Police… the case today still remains open.”
