Plot Summary

On a sweltering Texas summer day, August 7, 1939, tragedy strikes as a young woman working at a rural meat-packing plant in Travis County suddenly goes into labor and meets her untimely demise. The callous plant manager abandons the newborn infant in a dumpster, where it’s discovered by Luda Mae Hewitt, a kind-hearted local woman who names the child Thomas and raises him as her own son.

Years pass, and Thomas (Andrew Bryniarski) grows up, inheriting his mother’s compassionate nature. When the slaughterhouse where he works is forced to shut down due to its inhumane conditions, Thomas returns to exact a brutal revenge on the plant owner with a sledgehammer. He also claims a chainsaw as his own, foreshadowing the gruesome fate that awaits the unsuspecting victim.

As the news of Thomas’s actions spreads, Luda Mae’s sadistic son Charlie Hewitt (R. Lee Ermey) learns from Sheriff Winston Hoyt (Lew Temple) that Thomas is responsible for the slaughterhouse owner’s demise. Enraged and fueled by a desire to take revenge on his “brother,” Charlie kills the sheriff with a shotgun, assumes his identity, and returns home to butcher the corpse for dinner, convincing the rest of the family that they must remain indoors as the surrounding area becomes increasingly deserted.

Fast-forward three decades to July 1969. Eric (Matthew Bomer) and Dean (Taylor Handley), two draft-dodging brothers, embark on a cross-country road trip with their girlfriends Chrissie (Jordana Brewster) and Bailey (Diora Baird). As they stop at a local eatery, they’re confronted by a group of bikers. When the gang departs, Alex (Cyia Batten), a female biker, trails behind, sparking a high-speed chase that culminates in a catastrophic crash involving a cow and a flipped car.

In the chaos that ensues, Chrissie is flung from the vehicle and left hidden among the weeds. Meanwhile, Charlie Hewitt/Sheriff Hoyt arrives at the scene, immediately dispatches Alex with a shot, tosses her lifeless body into the trunk of his squad car, and forces the remaining group members to accompany him. As he calls for his Uncle Monty (Terrence Evans) on the CB radio, Chrissie discovers an opportunity to hide herself within the wreckage, which is subsequently towed away by a passing truck.

As Hoyt leads the group to the Hewitt house, a sense of foreboding settles over them like a shroud. His first order of business is to summon Thomas to despatch Alex’s lifeless body, a gruesome task that sets the tone for the horrors to come. Next, Hoyt takes Eric and Dean to a rustic barn, where he suspends them from the rafters by their arms, rendering them helpless and vulnerable to his whims. Later, he binds Bailey to the kitchen table, leaving her trapped and unable to escape.

Meanwhile, Chrissie stands watch from the vantage point of her car, oblivious to the fate that awaits her friends. Her gaze falls upon the disturbing tableau unfolding before her eyes - Eric and Dean bound and helpless, their faces contorted in anguish. Her instincts scream at her to flee, but she’s frozen in place, unable to tear herself away from the gruesome scene.

When Hoyt’s brutal treatment of Eric and Dean becomes too much for them to bear, they manage a daring escape, only to fall prey to his relentless pursuit once more. As Bailey attempts to make a break for it, Hoyt’s cruelty knows no bounds - he beats Eric mercilessly with his nightstick, forcing him into a series of grueling pushups that leave him gasping for air.

But the true extent of Hoyt’s depravity is only beginning to reveal itself. A chance encounter with Bailey allows her to slip away from her tormentors, only to be thwarted once more by Thomas, who seizes her in a brutal display of strength and brutality. Eric, meanwhile, finds himself subjected to Hoyt’s sadistic whims, forced into a desperate bid for freedom that ends in his capture and restraint on a wooden table.

As chaos reigns supreme at the Hewitt house, a mysterious figure named Holden appears out of nowhere, driven by a sense of justice and a desire to put an end to the carnage. His arrival sets off a chain reaction of events that will leave none of the characters unscathed.

In the midst of this maelstrom, Chrissie finds herself face-to-face with Eric, his body stretched out on the wooden table like a human sacrifice. She frantically works to release him from his restraints, but her efforts are in vain - Thomas has already claimed another victim, leaving behind a gruesome testament to his depraved tastes.

As if the horrors that have unfolded thus far were not enough, Thomas’s descent into madness reaches new depths. He takes pity on his wounded uncle Monty, only to compound his injuries by hacking off both of his legs with his chainsaw. The true extent of Thomas’s derangement is revealed as he dons Eric’s flayed skin like a macabre mask, earning himself the moniker Leatherface and cementing his status as one of cinema’s most notorious villains.

As the darkness deepened, Chrissie’s desperation grew as she sought to rescue her friend Bailey from Hoyt’s brutal clutches. Undeterred by the sinister atmosphere, Chrissie charged forward, determined to set Bailey free. But just as she was making progress, Hoyt and Thomas swooped in, capturing Chrissie and dragging her down to the cellar for a twisted “dinner”. The air was heavy with tension as Dean slumbered nearby, oblivious to the horror unfolding around him. Unbeknownst to Chrissie, Bailey’s fate had already been sealed, as Thomas brutally silenced her screams with a pair of scissors. With Bailey gone, Thomas seized Chrissie, preparing to add another victim to his gruesome tally.

Chrissie refused to go quietly into the night, however. As they descended to the basement, she managed to land a cunning blow on Thomas’s back with a screwdriver, buying herself just enough time to escape through a window and abandon Thomas in pursuit. Dean, regaining consciousness, stormed out of the house, hell-bent on avenging Bailey’s murder. He launched himself at Hoyt, pummeling him into unconsciousness with brutal efficiency, leaving him toothless and broken.

Meanwhile, Chrissie fled to an abandoned slaughterhouse, where she lay in wait for Thomas. With a knife at her disposal, she struck back against her tormentor, slashing his face with vicious precision. But just as victory seemed within grasp, Dean burst into the scene, only to be impaled by Thomas’s chainsaw and meet a gruesome demise.

As Chrissie stumbled through the darkness, desperate for an escape route, she spotted a police deputy halted on the roadside. With renewed hope, she prepared to seek help, but her reprieve was short-lived. Thomas materialized in the back seat, his chainsaw roaring to life as he slaughtered Chrissie with merciless precision. The out-of-control car careened into the Deputy and citizen, killing them both in a gruesome crash. As the wreckage came to rest, Thomas emerged from the carnage, shuffling slowly along the deserted road towards the Hewitt house, leaving death and devastation in his wake.
