In an intense and gripping tale, Tom Cooper is a deeply troubled individual who feels completely overlooked by the world. In a fit of rage, he invades the home of his ex-wife, brutally murdering her and her new partner with a hammer before obliterating the scene in flames as he escapes. The tragedy marks the beginning of a harrowing chain of events.
Meanwhile, we meet Rachel Flynn, a newly single mother navigating life in New Orleans with her 15-year-old son, Kyle. During a chaotic morning commute to school, Rachel finds herself in a minor confrontation with Tom, who drives a pickup truck. After a brief exchange of words, which Rachel believes she is in the right for, Tom’s obsession with her begins to escalate dangerously.
Tom tracks Rachel down, creating havoc along the way. He intercepts her at a gas station, swapping his phone with hers, and later viciously attacks a bystander who tries to assist her. The situation deteriorates when he finds Rachel’s divorce lawyer, Andy, and brutally murders him before continuing his hunt for Rachel.
The stakes rise when Tom threatens Rachel’s brother, Fred, demanding that Rachel race to pick up Kyle from school within a limited time frame. In a frantic rush, Rachel manages to get Kyle but finds herself followed by Tom, leading to a violent confrontation involving multiple vehicles.
As Rachel and Kyle take refuge at her mother’s house, the tension escalates when Tom corners them. In a heart-stopping twist, just as he nearly overpowers them, Rachel fiercely defends her son, stabbing Tom in the eye with scissors, ultimately leading to his demise.
In the aftermath, the police inform Rachel that Fred survived the horrific incident. As she and Kyle drive to the hospital, a moment of reflection occurs when Rachel resists the urge to react to another aggressive driver on the road. Kyle observes her restraint and comments, “Good choice,” hinting at the personal growth born from their traumatic experience.
