Lord Voldemort commits a grave act by stealing the powerful Elder Wand from the tomb of Albus Dumbledore. In the wake of Dobby’s burial, Harry Potter seeks the help of the goblin Griphook to break into Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault at Gringotts bank, suspecting it may conceal a Horcrux. Griphook agrees to the plan under the condition that he receives the Sword of Gryffindor. During this time, wandmaker Ollivander reveals to Harry that two wands taken from Malfoy Manor belonged to both Bellatrix and Draco Malfoy, with Draco’s wand now switching its allegiance to Harry.
Once in Bellatrix’s vault, Harry discovers that the Horcrux he seeks is Helga Hufflepuff’s cup. However, after retrieving it, Griphook betrays the trio, seizing the sword and abandoning them as they are cornered by security. In a daring escape, the three release the dragon that guards the vault and flee on its back. While doing so, Harry sees a vision that includes Voldemort killing goblins, with Griphook meeting a grim fate. It becomes clear to Harry that Voldemort knows of the theft and is in pursuit of the stolen items. Furthermore, Harry realizes there is another Horcrux located at Hogwarts, linked to Rowena Ravenclaw.
The trio apparates into Hogsmeade, encountering Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus’s brother, who instructs the portrait of his sister Ariana to fetch Neville Longbottom. Neville leads them through a secret passageway into the Room of Requirement, where many of their friends are hiding and secretly fighting back against the dark forces dominating the school.
Among the turmoil, Snape gets wind of Harry’s return and warns the faculty and students against aiding him. In a tense confrontation, Harry challenges Snape, who escapes after Minerva McGonagall dares him to duel. Steeling the Hogwarts community for battle, McGonagall rallies her peers. Following Luna Lovegood’s encouragement, Harry engages with the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw, who reveals that Voldemort has used dark magic on her mother’s diadem, which lies hidden within the Room of Requirement.
In the depths of the Chamber of Secrets, Ron persuades Hermione to destroy the Horcrux cup using a Basilisk fang. This moment is further underscored by a passionate kiss between the two, sealing their bond. Meanwhile, within the Room of Requirement, Draco, Gregory Goyle, and Blaise Zabini launch an attack on Harry, but Ron and Hermione rush to his aid.
In a tragic turn of events, Goyle’s attempt to cast a Fiendfyre curse leads to his death, while Harry and his friends save Malfoy and Zabini. Harry ultimately destroys the diadem with the Basilisk fang, intensifying their fight against Voldemort’s forces. As the battle escalates, Harry delves into Voldemort’s mind and uncovers the crucial truth that the final Horcrux is Voldemort’s snake, Nagini.
During a climactic moment at the boathouse, Voldemort reveals to Snape that the Elder Wand will not serve him until Snape is dead. In a shocking moment, he orders Nagini to kill him. Before Snape succumbs, he implores Harry to take his memories to the Pensieve. Tragically, many have fallen during the chaos at Hogwarts, including Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, and Nymphadora Tonks.
Through Snape’s memories, Harry learns of the deep and complex love Snape held for his mother, Lily, alongside his disdain for Harry’s father, James. Following Lily’s demise, Snape covertly allied with Dumbledore to safeguard Harry from Voldemort, driven by his lingering affection for her. Harry also discovers the truth behind Dumbledore’s death being part of a grand plan between the two, and that the doe-shaped Patronus he encountered was conjured by Snape.
In a harrowing revelation, Harry realizes that he himself became a Horcrux when Voldemort attempted to kill him. To vanquish the fragment of Voldemort’s soul within him, Harry must offer his life. He bravely confronts Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest, momentarily connecting with his deceased loved ones before facing the Dark Lord. When Voldemort casts the Killing Curse, Harry finds himself in a limbo where Dumbledore’s spirit explains that Voldemort unwittingly ended the piece of himself residing within Harry. Armed with this knowledge, Harry returns to his body, resolute in his quest to defeat Voldemort.
As Voldemort proclaims Harry’s apparent death to the assembled crowd, he threatens to execute anyone who defies him. Undeterred, Neville declares that Harry will remain alive in their hearts. Harry dramatically reveals that he is still among the living, igniting a fierce duel with Voldemort throughout the castle. The battle escalates as Molly Weasley witnesses her daughter Ginny about to be killed by Bellatrix, leading her to retaliate fiercely and ultimately end Bellatrix’s life.
A defiant Neville, empowered, retrieves the Sword of Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat and slays Nagini, stripping Voldemort of his protection. In the climax of their long-standing conflict, Harry’s Disarming Charm rebounds Voldemort’s own Killing Curse, obliterating him once and for all. After the dust settles, Harry shares with Ron and Hermione that the Elder Wand recognized him as its true master since he had disarmed Draco Malfoy, the one who had previously disarmed its last owner, Dumbledore. In a final act of defiance against the allure of power, Harry snaps the Elder Wand and disposes of it into a chasm.
Fast forward nineteen years, Harry, Ginny Potter, and Ron Weasley](/actor/rupert-grint) together with Hermione Granger as well as Draco and his wife Astoria Malfoy, proudly witness their children embarking on a new chapter as they head off to Hogwarts from King’s Cross Station.
