What is the main goal of Vinny and his friends in 'Four Samosas'?
Get the full story of Four Samosas with a detailed plot summary. Dive into its themes, characters, and the twists that make it a must-watch.
The film begins with a chaotic scene featuring four masked thieves escaping from a local store, Juneja’s Cash & Carry. In bold letters across the screen, “Four Samosas…and the ill-advised grocery store heist” set the stage for an outrageous adventure. We are then taken back “a few days earlier,” where we find Vinny (Venk Potula) working diligently in a Sari store, enthusiastically sharing his original rhymes with his coworker during their shifts.
The plot thickens as Vinny meets up with his friends, Anjali (Sharmita Bhattacharya) and Zak (Nirvan Patnaik), at the local Chaat House where Zak reveals some startling news: Vinny’s ex-girlfriend, Rina (Summer Bishil), is now engaged. To Vinny’s shock, he learns that Rina’s fiancé is none other than Sanjay (Karan Soni), a goat-dung-repurposer. This leads to a heated confrontation when Vinny visits Rina at her salon, resulting in him leaving in a huff.
Meanwhile, Vinny’s cousin, Nikki (Maya Kapoor), is passionately preparing for her performance at the upcoming Little India Cultural Night, and turns to Vinny for guidance. After their conversation, Vinny feels a sudden urge to ignite change in his life and devises a foolproof plan with Zak: to “reappropriate the wealth” by stealing from Rina’s affluent father. The motivation behind this grand heist is to acquire funds for his ailing aunties and help Zak pursue his Bollywood aspirations. Anjali, overhearing their plot, eagerly joins in, hoping to win some one-on-one time with her crush, Zak.
Their target? A stash of diamonds securely tucked away in Mr. Juneja’s office at the Cash and Carry. To gather intel, Anjali cleverly tricks Mr. Juneja (Tony Mirrcandani) into giving her an interview for her fictional newspaper. As she distracts him, Zak puts on a lively show near the checkouts, allowing Anjali to slip into the office for some solo reconnaissance.
To crack the safe’s combination lock, they enlist the expertise of Paru (Sonal Shah), a former engineer with a background from IIT. In a series of hilarious contests—all while building camaraderie—they engage with local activists through dance-offs, ladoo-eating contests, oral arguments, and rap battles, ultimately managing to acquire the necessary tools for their ambitious heist. Vinny also seeks a blessing from his father, a priest, hoping for guidance that would steer him away from this audacious plan.
Finally disguised and ready for action, Vinny, Paru, Anjali, and Zak break into Juneja’s store and secure themselves inside just before the closing hours. But what follows is a painstakingly fruitless attempt to open the safe. After a series of comical failures, Vinny finally gets a breakthrough by guessing Rina’s birthday as the combination, and to everyone’s amazement, the safe clicks open. With diamonds in hand, they indulge in a celebratory gathering at Vinny’s place.
However, their triumph is short-lived when Rina appears at the Sari shop, accusing Vinny of being behind the diamond theft. In a twist of fate, the group opts to go back to Mr. Juneja to sell the diamonds, reasoning that the rightful owner wouldn’t dare to call the police over stolen gems. They arrange an exchange, asking for a staggering $40,000.
In a comical turn, Anjali, donned as an elderly man, attempts the exchange with Mr. Juneja on a nearby baseball field. Chaos erupts as it becomes apparent that Mr. Juneja brought counterfeit cash, and to add to the chaos, Vinny forgets to bring the real diamonds. As Mr. Juneja confronts Zak and Sanjay inside the grocery store, tensions escalate.
The crew scurries back to Vinny’s house to retrieve the diamonds—only to discover that Vinny’s mother, Kamala (Meera Simhan), has unwittingly used the precious gems to enhance King Ashoka’s prop crown. In a comic twist, Sanjay snatches the crown from the performers in the park and promptly returns it to Mr. Juneja.
In a moment of clarity, the four realize they no longer need the money they initially sought from the diamonds. Vinny has a heartfelt realization that the heist was never truly about wealth, but rather about confronting his feelings for Rina.
Determined, Vinny pledges to support his cousin Nikki with her cultural show performance and they share a duet that brings him closer to his roots. He also gathers his crew for his own act, performing a heartfelt song dedicated to Rina in a bid to win her back. Initially unresponsive, Rina later approaches Vinny with kind words, inviting him to her shop for a complimentary eyebrow threading.
As the day comes to an end, the crew leaves with smiles, heading back to the Chaat House, ready for whatever light-hearted adventure awaits them next.
